BIKE GURU'S.. .. .. YAMAHA Esp. in here please.

I had a 07 YZF R6. it was recently stolen. I think I know who did it. And i can confirm to myself that some of my parts are on one of my "friend's" bike...
i need to know where aLL I CAN FIND THE vin. AND ALSO, I THINK HE IS USING MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. IT RETAINED THE MILAGE WEN HE SWAPPED IT... if it has memory, would it remeber what VIN (bike) it belongs to???

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you are looking for the VIN # on the bike frame itself, then it should be stamped into the frame itself under the clipons. It should be on be on the tube that front forks pivot on, mine is clearly visible on my 07 Ninja. As for the odometer, I am not sure that it marked or has that kind of memory.

Sorry to hear that your bike was stolen, and even worse if it was one of your friends.

Do you have the factory manual, because it tells you everywhere that the VIN in located on the bike. If he is using the plastics and parts like that I am not sure if those are marked, you may want to contact a dealer and ask. Have you talked to the police about the possibility that your friend stole your bike to fix his?

If it is true then there would one less person to worry about in the world.

Is his bike the same year as yours, because like alot of parts it maybe marked with a part number that could help to tell what model it is off of. What other parts are you thinking that he used, other than headlight, fairing, cluster, etc. With friends like that, who needs enemies.

Considering the amount of electronics that bike has on it, it maybe possible that the cluster is that precise. What other parts do you think he is using, and what kind of damage did he do to his bike? Good luck with finding the information you are looking for.

If he used the tail from your bike I can tell you that the emissions sticker is usually under the seat, on the inside of the fairing. the emissions sticker is year specific and if he did not remove it, it will not be right for his bikes year model.

Maybe he had to replace it also, you never know. I just wonder if he did steal your bike, what happened to the rest of your bike.

i know we all know our stuff better than anyone else, but besides his bike being fixed shortly after yours was stolen what makes your "KNOW" he has your stuff... i mean had he painted it all? are there any scratches that stick out that let you "KNOW" its your stuff? I mean if you are visually identifying it do you Have pics that show your bike with the same defects or improvements?

well the deal sealer.. .. .. i had a cheap set of AZ strobes in my headlights... on the bright side one of the 4 melted inside the light, when i removed what was left, it left behind a signature... now his head light is the same.....

if they are two different year bikes then you should be able to tell by the date stamp in the plastic pieces/ headlight bezel, etc. yours would be for your '07 and his should read for '06.

As for the gauge cluster having a VIN onboard..I don't think so. Again it would just have the date stamp to show it came off of an 07'. the only vin on the bike would be on the frame.

as far as i'm aware they don't put the vin numbers on every little piece of the bike. i don't believe that the gauge cluster has the vin on it. best bet would be to join an r6 forum and ask there just to be certain but i don't recall ever seeing one on my sv1000s...just on the frame.

and you can't clear the miles off of an odometer either that i'm aware of. if you can it's something that the dealer would have to do and honestly i rather doubt that they can do it either for fraud purposes.

hope it all works out for ya though. that's pretty shitty what your "amigo" has done to ya.
