Gauges Problem--Please help asap???

I have a 1999 firehawk and just last week the gauges tach,speedometer,fuel,temp,when I start the car the gauges go over and hit the peg really fast then come back down real slow and act normal after this episode every time you start the car.Also with this problem everytime you start the car the trip meter resets back to zero.

ahh haha, the bad connection at the battery strikes again, poop them off and see if there is any leaking and.or corrosion.

The '99 cars do that when battery voltage is low, unless the gauge cluster was replaced under the TSB issued in 1999. A good battery will make it stop.

Sounds like a temporary loss of ground. Probably points to the battery.

If you haven't cleaned the battery terminals do that now, if it is the original battery replace it, about 6 years is all should expect from the battery.

Yes! finally the fixed the problem! the optima battery caused the problem. Thanks everybody for your help!

there was a TSB for changing the cluster? I have a 99 z28 and when the battery connection is bad i get the exact same thing. Only sometimes the car won't even start. I replaced my battery bolts to make sure I had nice fresh bolts i could tighten down.

Bad battery connection = same as low voltage. The GM TSB# is 99-08-49-009 for the trip resetting to zero, doesn't mention the gauge sweep but happens at the same time.
