Building up 10 bolt rear end

Well I was just curious if there were anything that could be done to make the stock rear end housing in a 98+ camaro, stronger than it is. I want to install 4.10s but I dont want to nuke the rear end from launching it so much. and another thing....I was reading on a previous thread, about someone having to remove the ASR plug in order to make the 4.10s fit??? If it helps any, I drive a 1998 Camaro SS with the 6 speed. So anyways, let me know. Thanks.

Don't put any more money into the 10 bolt if you don't have to. There is no sense in buying expensive aftermarket parts unless you have already broken stuff...the 10 bolt is smaller than the 12 bolt or 9 inch so theoretically it is going to be weaker.

With that being said I have 4.10's in mine and I put 3.73s in my boyfriends car. We race at the dragstrip every week and are not easy on our cars, both on drag radials and 4,000rpm + launches. We have not broken anything yet. As long as the gears are set up correctly, you're not wheel hopping, there is always enough fluid, and the pinion angle is okay, you have a good chance of keeping your 10 bolt intact for quite a long time.

With the ASR, what they are talking about is removing the rear sensors from the backing plate in order to get enough clearance to remove the rear axles. You remove the sensors when you begin installing gears, and put them back in when you are finished.

How much tire to you intend to put on your car? As long as you don't want a real sticky tire, you'll probably spin rather than hook and break. If you want to hook hard out of the hole, you'll be better off selling your 10 bolt to someone looking for 3.42's and buying a bolt in 12 bolt or 9 inch with the ratio of your choice.

Stock 10 blots are just to weak, even with all the upgrades that you can spend major bucks for. All the components are so much smaller than what you'll find in a 12-bolt, even an aftermarket carrier and axles won't make it comparable in strength.

To build up the 10 bolt, Moser Axels + New Bearing Kit + TA Girdle + Eaton or Auburn Posi + Gears = $$ Why the hell didn't you just get a 12 bolt

Yea I did that with my camaro, just wanted to put a posi in there and 3.73 gears since it used to be a 3.4L v6 with an open dif and 3.23 gears. one thing lead to another and I needed to get new axles since one was twisted due to the new power my 94 was seeing with an LS1 in it... from the start should of just gotten the 12bolt, have both a camaro and firebird now and once i sell the camaro i'll have my 12 and the rest of the mods i want on my hawk
