PCV Valve Harness???

I've currently got my car in the shop and they called me a few minutes ago reporting what they found. One of the things was a PCV Valve Harness. They said it looked like it was starting to crack & dry up and that it may need replacing soon, for a cheep price of $223.00. I declined. If it's something I can fix myself, I'm all over it, but I have no idea what the hell it is or if $223.00 is a rip-off price. Any information anyone would have would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

that should include everything from the intake connection to where it connects to the valve cover. too much $ fo sho

I would guess they are talking about the entire piece that runs along the top of the intake manifold,,,,on the passenger side,,,,then crosses over at the rear of the block to get over to the back of the driver side valve cover.

This entire setup is made of plastic,,,,and then also covered in a type of foam to protect it from heat. Plastic and heat don't mix too well,,,and it wouldn't surprise me if this plastic would get brittle and crack over time.

I am sure this entire setup is NOT going to be a $20 part from GM. Probably not $200 either,,but hey,,,shops have to make money too.

Check your local dealer and get an idea on price,,,,if it truely needs replaced I am sure you can do it on your own.

Yeah, you're dead on. I picked it up last night and had them point out to me what it was. He said when it's REALLY necessary to replace it, it will start to run pretty rough. He pointed out how it runs all the way around the back of the manifold to the other valve cover, which is why it's not the easiest part to replace. I'd like to take a stab at fixing it myself to save a little money, but I just need a little guidance. I still don't even totally know what it's for. Anymore info anyone has would rock, thanks!

can you just cap all of the system off in put filters in the valve covers?

if you change your oil every couple hundred miles.

Sure,,,,thats the way all engines were before emmissions came into affect. I see people taking these LS1's all the time and installing filters in the valve covers,,,,and still using the PCV system too,,,,

They weren't capped off but earlier engines just vented to the atmosphere. If a person didn't have emmissions they could run some flexble hose from the valve covers and put a filter on the end of it. A cap would be need on the TB.
