Dash pad plastic thing cracked!!
That big plastic panel between the dash pad and windshield cracked from one side to the other last night, the only night I leave the car outside too! I can't figure out what would've caused it to crack like that, I always armor all the interior and take really good care of it. What's the price on a new one of these? Has anyone else had this happen? This is the second piece of plastic to break in this car for no reason, this one I blame on the wife for letting her drive the car but I doubt she had anything to do with it.

It is common
Unfortunately it is common on F-bodies, especially exposed to extreme temps. Armorall is fine for the surface but it really doesn't penetrate to prevent cracking. Mostly just a cosmetic to preserve the color. I guess I have been lucky so far in my 10 years of F-body ownership and I guess every car is different. I also wonder if bad roads contribute to this problem. When you hit bumps in these cars every part of the car is just flat out jolted! It must have a cumulative effect. Sorry to hear.
Window panels are the same way too.

ya,so how much is it?
Mine had a small crack on one side that developed into a bunch more when I
"gently" tried removing to fix the one crack.
I pulled a part # off back but no luck getting info on it.
GM pn-10269102.
Looks like shit and I should have left it alone with just the one crack.
Gonna try to fix ...but will probably look like crap

Get a hold of big rus, he has some nice dash material. You can see it in his truck on his car domain page. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2458749
I sure hope mine doesn't do that!

man.. I tell you what..MAYBE...if i had it out in the sun to warm it up before and soften it up..MAYBE it would not have cracked.
I did it carefully expecting clips holding it down. Sure does have clips..4 of them and then velcro near windshield. Soon as I put small force to pry up near one clip, crack....next one , crack...shoulda gave up at first crack before starting to make new ones.
Also,,superglue, plastic putty,,, no luck, cant lay it flat cause of shape ..so lining it up to make even seams is a bitch.
Now it's like a jigsaw puzzle

I'm saying,,,if u think about pulling it off to fix 1 crack..just live with the one or get ready to buy a new piece.
Unless you get lucky and pull it off in one piece.
BTW..that dash cover was too cool for me,,,belongs on a Honda.

This part ended up costing me $122.00 on ebay, along with $30 shipping. It was worth every penny and was in excellent condition, still very flexible. Mine broke everytime I touched it, while trying to remove it.
I have only had this car for a few weeks now, but that cracked dash bugged me every time I drove it.
Very easy fix!Last edited by pinky93; 12-29-2007 at 07:10 AM.

The person that had my car before me had tried to patch it somehow....you can kind of see in the picture. It looked like crap. As easy as it is to change, they must have just not wanted to spend the money.
Now I am looking for a passenger visor, it fell out and into the passenger seat today as I was driving down the road. They had tried to use Gorilla Glue to stick it up there!!

Cool for you......
Keep in mind that this thread had nothing to do with what you might condition your dash with, I just mentioned that I HAD used ArmorAll on my dash in the (3) weeks that I have owned THIS car. We were talking about replacing the dash pad, which is why I posted here. It was ALOT easier than I expected to change this out.Last edited by pinky93; 12-08-2007 at 05:05 PM.

Mine cracked after 6 years, I guess i got my moneys worth. Ive been wanting to change mine out as soon as i pick one up. I know every one says its easy to change, What are the steps in removing it. Are we talking about prying it with a screwdriver or what?

The screwdiriver will work to pry it up to get a hold of it, but it will likely start breaking into pieces, mine did. It is attached with velcro near the windshield and clips towards the driver. To install the new one, just remove the pillar panels (2 screws) and lay it in!!
