Extrude Hone for Cylinder Heads

I am considering having my cylinder heads extrude honed. This process polishes the heads by forcing abrasive putty through them. I have heard that good results have been attained. Does anyone have experience with this product?
Please note that I am considerring this in conjunction with a mild HP increase:
GM hot cam/LS6 springs and Edelbrock Shorty headers.

2001 Z28 A4 Cold Air Intake, SLP airbox lid, K@N filter, Grantelli MAF, TB Bypass, TB bored to 78mm, Smooth air bellows, Crane Gold Roller rocker arms (1.8), Magnaflow Catback. Subframe connectors, control arms, panhard rod, strut brace. 19" wheels.

I have never even heard of that before. Why not just get a port job? Keep us updated. The heads probaly arnt going to be put on a flow bench are they? I am just curious to how this works. Shorty headers? I take it you have to pass emissions?

I have no personal experience with extrude hone but I remember a number of writeups in the car mags some years ago about it and they were all positive. Not a cheap process and it gets to all the hard to reach spots. The slurry is pumped through under pressure and requires special adapters for each type of heads to hook them up to the rest of the equipment.http://www.extrudehone.com/

I am using shorty headers as I must pass CA emissions. The extrude hone process is not new. It is rather expensive at $975 for a pair of cylinder heads. Before I put out that much money I hope someone can advise me if it is worth it.

extrude hone will only cut the ports down to smoothness. you'll get minor enlargement of the ports. actual CNC machining, or hand porting will get them larger.

IMO, no. especially since you can buy ported heads from patriot at right about that price.

extrude honing isn't worth it with heads, not with the cost of porting and such, but I've had great experiences with intake manifolds. How much are they charging for the process?

Extrude hone charges $975 for a pair of cylinder heads, and $730 for an LS1 intake manifold. That is more than the FAST(78) manifold I intend to use. I have the impression nobody thinks it is worth it to hone my heads.

no, it is not worth spending your time, money, and resources to extrude hone your heads/intake. go aftermarket. you will be happy that you did and with the gains you will get...
