when my car gets up into high high rpms, like between the shift from first to second when im really gettin on her, there is an underhood noise. you know when you shut a vehicle off and you get out and the engine is kinda pingin every now and then while she is coolin off, well it kinda sounds like that but faster

Sounds like your getting detonation...
Can be caused by quite a few things..
Mass Air Flow sensor
Running lean (Bad fuel pump, clogged fuel filter...etc)
Higher than normal temps...
Excessive carbon build up on the pistons...
Too low of octane rated gasoline...(cheap stuff...)
Did it just start out of nowhere?Or been doing it for a while...

i bought the car not long ago, and its always done it, but only at really high rpms. its the same sound my v6 made when the cat plugged. i use 93 octane gas, and the car is mainly stock. i have msd wires, slp lid, gutted airbox with k&n, and a honed out maf

could be the honed out maf...really doesn't give much HP for the irritation it can cause.

Onyx Black- 2001 Camaro SS
Modifying the MAF sensor typically results in a lean condition, which promotes detonation.
