Story from way back
I've got a couple of kill stories, but only have time for one today.
I'm blessed to have a mother who was a big street racer back in the 60's. Back in the day, her daily driver was a 63 426 Max Wedge Belvidere 2-door hard top. In that same car, she held the record at Lyons International (LA, CA) for many years; put down a 10.2 1/4 on street gas (and bias ply's to boot!).
Anyhoo, fast forward 20 or so years. It was around '83-84, I was in my early teens, and she had just purchased a numbers matching '70 hemi cuda (which she ultimately restored from the ground up and won best of show in every event it appeared) and we were cruising around the Auto Center in Irvine, CA. looking at the new cars. Just as we were leaving, this bright yellow 5.0 mustang, window sticker and all pulls beside us. The prospective buyer looks over, oblivious to what we were driving; his eyes gleamed and you could see him jump up and down in his seat a little; guess he thought we were in a fat 6-cylinder Camaro.
We look over at the sales guy (and this is the best part); he recognizes a) what we were driving and b) that he just lost the sale. His buried his head in his hands (like he was mourning) and slowly shook his head back and fourth. Next thing you know, the prospective buyer is grabbing first, banging gears, the 5.0 smoking, wheezing and whining as he's hunched over the steering wheel giving it everything he and the car had. In classic form, my mom picks up her coke and takes a drink through the straw as we completely blow the doors off this poor 'Stang. It wasn't even a contest (we had the automatic slap-stick, and started off the line in 2nd)
In the rear view, you could see the guy whip a U-turn and head back for the dealer, chapfallen.
I've got a couple more kill stories from her that I'll share when I have the time.

Love that story. Been in hundreds of races myself and can count on one hand my losses. We should almost write down all our races, I bet I forget half of mine. A 25degree day years ago in my 73 Challenger. I am on a long open streach of road and I see another Challenger a mile away I am already over 100 and I pin and hold that pistol grip in fourth. I let the 340 scream to over 7000rpm in fourth passing the other car at something over 150 mph. I still wonder how fast we were going, maybe I will figure it out someday. P255/60r15 3.23 gears 7000 rpm? Tell us more and maybe I will as well.
