De-screen MAF? Yes or No...
Okay, I've read a ton on this, and it seems to be a 50/50 split.
I'm going to do the free mods soon, and am torn on this one.
I did this on my 88 GTA L98, and never had a problem.
Has anyone actually HAD a problem because they took the MAF screens out? I'm not going to port it or otherwise mess with it, I just want to pull the screens.
Yes or no?
Thanks!

i would not do it because your not going to feel a difference. i did it on my factory maf and wish i hadn't. one thing the screen does is it keeps the air coming in straight. if there is a huge open hole then the air stream 'breaks' where it swirls around and goes everywhere in the maf which i have heard can lead to incorrect readings. just my .02 hope it helps

Leave the screen.
The sensors are designed to meter the air with the screen in place.2008 Trailblazer SS

Leave the screen in and pee in your gas tank. You'll get more RWHP that way. Leave the screen ALONE!

I would leave it in. How much can it realy restrict the air flow?

dont mess with it..actually dont ever mess with your maf unless your running major h/p t/q..the maf works just fine..and messing with it will mess with your readings.

It means fucked up beyond all recognition. What about the ported MAF ends, is that worthwhile or a gimmic?

If you're just doing "free mods" leave it alone for the only reason being you might damage the fragile sensors while removing the screen. I've had ported ends (no screen) on my MAF for 6 years with no issues. I needed any extra air to feed a H/C/N and now 383/N set-up. The intake is such a straight shot on the LSx, I don't really buy the "air straightening" argument for the screen. Maybe on the LTxs... The Z06s came without a screen from the factory.

Did you notice any gains though by descreening and ported ends? I'd be interested in seeing a before and after dyno.
Vote for Pedro.
