[wow, i totally misspelled "pulley"] i have to replace a couple of pulley's and i've considered not using stock sizes. I"m really ignorant about this so could someone explain what aftermarket pulley's and/or a differnt size [?] would accomplish? Are their better or worse gas mileage or HP gains of any kind? thanks alot =)

It does not cost a grand to replace pulleys. I think lmperformace will have pulleys you can check out pricing there. Most people do not replace all of their pulleys. Most people only replace their crack pulley on ls1s. If you are bent on replacing all of your pulleys that is when it gets expensive but not a grand worth.

i think i need a tensioner pully too. I don't have the tools, but it's all good-if it needs done, it needs done.

Lg motorsports (G2) has a tensioner, also on lmperformance. you can rent tools at autozone or any auto store. Usually for free

nah, i'll leave the install to the pros-but the pros we [zboner and i] go to are slow as molasses when it comes to ordering parts in timely manner.

yeah, LM perf. is gonna be my hook up-prolly need the new belts too

i just replaced them last winter too...oh well

do i have to use an aftermarket tensioner with the new pulleys or can i jsut use a GM stock one?

Aftermarket or stock tensioner will do, but it's a good idea to get a new one either way. good luck.

Is the price per horsepower gain really worth it though?

Im not so sure.. some of the info I’ve see on pulleys…i really wasn't convinced I mean.. yea if your going to (or) running a supercharger.. its more than worth it.. but..

I guess it's really your preference, I haven't bought any myself yet. I heard the underdrive pulley for your power steering pump will extend the life of the pump greatly if you see high rpms often. But I see high rpms daily and never replaced a pump yet at 100,000mls. Who knows, You could buy a cam for the price of the pulleys and If you were to pay for them to be installed.

no no ... this isn't to gain HP, that would have been a bonus. My pulley's are squeeling b/c of worn bearings-so i figured to go for an upgrade. well, i think it's only the tensioner pully that's making the noise, if so, i'm not gonna dump 400$ into 15HP and +3 mpg, though tempting.

i picked up a slp underdrive pulley and both belts with a new bolt for $200, and i was told having a shop swap the pulley out is only like 30 - 40 bucks.
