    Camaro Monsoon

What GM / AC Delco Monsoon radios will fit the 98-02 Camaro wire harness? I was looking for a replacement monsoon, and didn't know if a Firebird monsoon would work, or like a Buick Regal, or Sunfire, etc.

    thanks

I would suggest you check around your area to see if there are any salvage places. There's one here that always has a huge selection of Monsoon decks. I'm pretty certain the Firebird Monsoon is a direct fit in the harness for the Camaro.

Some people on this forum say that the monsoon head unit is the same as the regular one. In that case you could get any din and a half gm head unit to work.

the salvage places in my neck of the woods suck. they generally don't have f-bodies, or if they do they pick them cleean before turning them to the bone yard.

i guess it is big business pulling all the common parts before you let the public in to shop. then they sell them on ebay or from the counter at a high robbery price.

i have debated the idea of running new lines and just installing a new radio setup. i would loose the steering wheel controls, but i would have so many options.

i noticed a number of the monsoons on ebay don't have the same plug setup as the camaro, bummer.

many aftermarket radios have the ability to keep the stock steering wheel controls with an adaptor.

yeah i read about it. i think i still have the site book marked.

some times i'm just lazy like plug in another monsoon and get over it, other times i'm in a pissy WTF mood ditch the POS PINA and go for it.

    thanks

The salvage we have here that I'm talking about is strictly f-bodies. They might ship parts off if paid for by credit card. I can give you the number if you want.

I've got two Monsoon headunits the newer ones.. they both were in my 2001 Camaro. One is a tape deck that came with my car, I don't know about the tape part, but everything else on it works. Cd changer controls, etc. Perfect condition, really.

I also have a CD player version. Everything works except for two, maybe three lights for the buttons on the faceplate, or whatever you call it. Also has cd changer controls, etc. and everything works. It's slightly more worn (the white part around the bass and treble knobs is fading), but is not bad by any means!

I guess the safest bet if i won't another monsoon is to buy from a camaro or firebird.

who knows maybe i'll get pissed on day and gut the hole freakin thing.

i just re-glued those goofy knobs that split in two. I hate plastic parts, lol.
