LS1 Oil Consumption on long distance trips

Oil consumption noticeable on long distance cruising. Seems to be very little oil consumption around town - 3,000 miles between oil changes without town, seems to be very little oil consumption. Once I get it out on the highway, I can burn through a quart in a 1,000 miles ... also discolored.

Engine rebuilt and stroked to 383 about 18,000 miles ago, mid 20's cam, 3.73 diff gears, Yank PE3400, strengthened auto and trans cooler etc.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Catch Can going on in a few weeks time. Don't understand why this is happening though. Seems like the wrong way around. No oil used around town with occasional spirited driving but cruising at just over 70 mph seems to just eat the stuff.

Maybe because you have more crankcase pressure and its spitting it out?? just an idea

Long long story made very short, and hope it makes sense, cause I'm late for work..sorry. I read that driving around town, and lets say that you have about 1500 miles on your oil since the last change, you check it, the levels fine, maybe a little low. Then you go on a road trip, and you travel a hundred miles, pull over to get something to eat, check the oil and all of a sudden WHOA!!! Down a quart! In 100 miles! (Just throwing out numbers you understand) Why the big drop all of a sudden? All that around town driving was ADDING all kinds of contaminents to your oil..i.e. water, gas, so on, that was giving you a FALSE reading on the dipstick. When you got her on the highway, and got her up to speed for a while, it actually burned off these contaminents, and then you got a TRUE reading!
Giving you the impresswion that your car was burning oil, but she was actually just burning off the crap that all our cars have in the oil. One of the reasons you see manufacters recommend that if you take nothing but short trips, you change the oil more often, that stuff doesn't get burned off.
