Subframe Connectors - 2 Point vs. 3 Point...Advantage/Disadvantage
I'm in the process of upgrading my 'STOCK' 2001 WS6 and one of the obvious upgrades is the Subframe Connectors. There's the two point and the three point. That's were the confusion comes in.
When I'm done with my current list of upgrades I should be at 400+rwhp and my upgrades are for street use only.
Here's the deal. I hear people say "2 point is all you need". I also hear, "3 point is the best. If you can afford 3 point install 3 point."
Hmmmm. A lot of people like the 3 point and a lot say all you need is the 2 point.
Which of the two are actually the BEST for my application????? Additionally, let's leave the 'bolt-on' vs. the 'weld-on' out of this thread; that has no relevance to the actual subject matter.
So???? What do you guys think?????

I think its more a personal preference, and if you can afford to such kinds of things. If i could and wanted to spend the extra cash id do it. But since SFCs are next on my list im going with just the two point, but a good pair of two points. Thats all i can say, it just looks like the 3rd point ads extra support, whether or not it makes a huge difference i cant say. Hopefully someone else can provide some insight.

I really like that setup so I posted it up here.
It's really a matter of preference.
I ordered a set because I want a 3 point mount.
Plus those UMI 3 points tuck up in there real nice.
I also prefer the round tube design over square.
There's a vendor on another forum selling them at unbelievable prices.

Probably the only relative disadvantages of the 3-points is weight and exhaust clearance, although the latter has more to do with a true dual system than most y-pipes. But, weight was the biggest factor for me in deciding to go to 2-points. And the added stability from these made a huge improvement in NVH. I'm not sure if I'd see that much difference by going to a 3-point system.

3 point will make much more difference when hitting irregular pavement and cornering... because it adds reinforcement in the whole plane, instead of just an axis.

so 3 points what you want if you're more interested in goin round a track as opposed to 1/4 mile runs?
i'm really happy i read this, i'm more interested in all around performance than staright line. the drag strip gets boring to me
whats the cheapest way to get a set of 3points installed?

The cheapest way is to bolt them on. The best way is to weld them on. I'm really surprised that A LOT of you bolt yours on instead of welding them on. Just like a bolted-in cage can't compare to a welded-in cage, neither can connectors. FWIW, just about all Mustangs with them are welded on.
