Black- 1998 Z28 Convertible
So, my wheel fell off my car today. HELP!
Think the Tire Place over torqued my lugs.
I work on my brakes all the time, but where do I begin to replace the Hub.
Am I even calling it the right thing?
If anyone can share:
Part#'s and Sources' and Tools needed, it would be appreciated.
As you can see, she's in bad shape.
Thanks.

If they can't torque a lug nut, I'm not going to let them touch the car again.

Looks like they used an Impact gun to torque the nuts.
Can't you just take the caliper off and remove the rotor. Then knock out the studs?

So, I just hit any Auto Store and ask for Wheel Studs?
I have the Haynes Repair manual but it's not alot of help for this.
They only touched my car because I had to get a nail plugged.
I try to do all the other work on my car myself.
I'll worry about getting money later.
I need to fix it first.

your wheel fell off when you were driving, first of all file a lawsuit against the company for at least the parts charges and total refund, then what ever you can get out of them

Never, never never let some tire guy near your car with an impact wrench. At the least he can warp your rotors. If not, the next time you have to get that wheel off you will curse him.
I take a torque wrench with me when getting tires. I usually get some silly stares, but I dont care.
Tell them up front that you will tighten them yourself. If they dont agree to it, drive away.

Personally I'd guess he forgot to torque that wheel. Lug nuts worked loose and then broke. If he overtorqued them you would probably have trouble with the others too. A hammer and punch should drive those out pretty easy without major disassembly. New stud should be pulled in with a lug nut with some washers or a spacer under it.

WOW, Well I worked in a tire shop for a little over 6 yrs and never saw a tire f'ed up like that. When did the tire fall off while driving, parked, or while you tried to remove the tire after they did the work. I wouldn't say I would never let a tire guy with an impact wrench close to my car. All most all impact wrenches have like twice as much torque in reverse (loosen) as they do forward. Unless he had a 3/4 in impact he would have had to pound on them studs for a couple mins to snap them off. I had my impact wrench tuned so in forward (tightening) it would only hit a max of 100 ft lbs and then torque the rest of the way down. I never let the impact hit more than two or three times before I stopped and finished them by hand.
Long story short if they did that I would go and hang them for damages. They should atleast pay for parts, towing to get the car to a body shop, and labor to fix it. Even if you do all of it yourself go back and fry the retard that broke them.
Good luck and hope the only thing broken was the studs.
