All I want for Christmas is a Slingshot!
Finally got to see one in person today. Very impressed! These are made by Polaris and sticker at under $24K for the loaded model. Powered by a GM Ecotec 4 cylinder engine with 5 speed transmission. Not a terribly powerful engine until you stick it in something light like this. Of course there are a lot of things you can do to make an Ecotec put out more power. Will be taking a test ride in the near future. Because of 3 wheels these are classified as a motorcycle in most states. The exceptions are Connecticut, Texas, and Indiana, where they want to classify them as a car. Of course as a car they can't be registered because they don't meet all of the safety requirements. Guess I won't be moving there any time soon...

BTW the base is 19k right? there seems to be not much of a difference between base and loaded model imo, esp not for 5k extra

I've ridden the regular Spyder several times and always wind up with cramped legs that I can't stretch. The wide body requires you to keep your legs spread wide and with my 6'2" frame it doesn't leave any room for leg stretch. The F3 is supposed to have a lot more adjustment in seating and leg position but you lose the top trunk.
The Slingshot had decent room and some adjustment on the seats. Limited cargo but would be good for a day trip or a longer trip as a single. I know my wife would be happier in this than on the bike we currently ride.

The base is 19K. The big difference is the addition of windshield (a must), bigger wheels and tires (not so important), and a stereo system with back-up camera (definitely need the back-up camera). Yes you can get it cheaper, but after looking at the differences either way you are still getting a lot of vehicle for about the price of a low end Harley or high end Victory. You are also limited to two color schemes right now but I would expect more next model year. The dealer I went to noted that of the 18 pre-orders they had already delivered about 5 were headed straight to the body shop for a custom color change.

People can ride around on a motorcycle and nobody cares...drive around in a car with nothing but a roll cage and no roof and they lose their minds...I want a 4 wheel version

The engine part is easily rectified with a turbo Subaru swap.
The suspension part will push it past the $20k price of the Slingshot

I like the base model for 19k with a added windshield which is about $400-500.......I'm sure aftermarkets will be available soon, i just don't think the extra stuff you get is worth anywhere close to 4k lol.......there already seems to be some audio builds.....going on......over here:

I've seen posts on the Slingshot forum where people are already having turbo systems installed and doing some other interesting modifications. Will be interesting to see what they offer in the second year of production. If they stay near this price I can see them being very popular.

You know after seeing how they took apart a base and rebuilt it I'm think the base may be the way to go, since it is 4k cheaper that the SL i'm sure I could build a comparable one to the mtx build for a 5k.

I checked out the MTX link. Looks nice but it appears to be mostly a paint and stereo job with a couple of added bits like the front splitter that look good but may or may not actually help. By installing the subwoofers they eliminated the only storage space on the vehicle. Big stereo is one thing in a car but you have to wear a helmet when driving this thing so in my opinion it is kind of a wasted effort. I ride regularly and find my helmet mounted Bluetooth intercom system does a good job of providing communication with my passenger and clear tunes in the helmet. If I was going to paint one I'd go with something further away from the factory orange/gray scheme in maybe a blue or bright silver. I'm watching a couple of forums to see what people are doing in terms of suspension, tires, and engine mods. Several are installing turbos but if the power just overwhelms the back tire and tosses the drive belt it isn't worth the money. The aftermarket is just starting to spin up on this vehicle and I'm sure will have some really interesting bolt-ons in the near future. Slingshotforums.com has some interesting discussions and is tracking several mod projects.

Yeah i would prolly not do the subs but the rest of the build is on point, I see they already have a intake that provide about 15hp to wheels in the midrange....so the parts are coming....for my extra 4500....i just would rather build the base up and make it custom and unique rather than just get the SL........My 2cent.

I just can't believe people think this is worth 25k. You know you can get a BRZ or the scion FRS for the same price? An entire car that is light RWD with a peppy engine. The wife would probably enjoy riding in that even more.
