    Unhappy 4L60E Bellhousing broke

I am installing a new transmission, 4L60E in my 99 Camaro SS. The transmission came without the tail-shaft and the bell-housing. While removing my old transmission, one of the bolts was hiding (the one at 11:00). Anyway when I dropped the transmission the bell-housing ear broke off. I was thinking that maybe with all the other bolts installed, I might could do without this one.

What does everyone think? Can I do without this bolt or should I try to find a scrapped 4L60E and just use the bell-housing?

    Thanks,
    GM

If you take it to a machine shop they might be able to weld it back on for you if yiu still have the broken peice. When I had my Engine apart the corner of the oil pan broke off where a bolt went, the guy hat the machine shop welded it back on. You cant even tell it was broken. I wouldn't recomend putting it in without that bolt. Or you can try to find a new bell housing for it, im pretty sure they come off of the 4l60E.

I do still have the piece but don't know is it can be welded or if it is welded if it will hold up, being aluminum.

That's the wrong bellhousing on ebay. Mine has a bolt at 12:00 but searching I did find one on ebay that will fit, only it's $59 plus 20 shipping. I'll look locally tomorrow and if I can't find one, the ebay one will have to do.

    Thanks guys,
    GM

As long as it is welded with an aluminum welder it should hold up without a prob.

oops didn't even notice it didnt have that bolt hole on top.

OK. I'll try that too. It might be cheaper if I can find a salvaged one than a machine shop.
    Thanks again.
