While it is indeed extreme, I would not call it a waste or pointless.
To many people, a V8 engine is pointless. It is also pointless to have a vehicle capable of 160mph+ when the speed limit is 70.
If the guy can do it, more power to him. I'm not going to rain on his parade when it has no impact on me personally.
Now if only I could get that engine in my 1000lb rail buggy

and one thing to keep in mind, with all those superchargers, with that many cubic inches, that thing is pulling in massive amounts of air...1 or 2 superchargers would probably pull vacuum, lol...something that size needs that many to actually make boost

Gotta give him credit...the engineering that must have went just into the throttle linkage alone is amazing!
I wonder what the torque number was?

Well, that is impressive looking, but all those throttle linkages and butterflies are just for show. You have to remember it is a 2 stroke diesel, the butterflies need to be wide open to keep from interfering with the airflow. The real throttle only controls the fuel flow.
The blowers on Detroit diesels are some times called exhaust scavengers, the blowers push the air though the intake ports at the bottom of the cylinder as the ports are uncovered by the piston and out the exhaust valves in the heads. It all depends on exhaust valve timing to determine if any of the extra pressurized air from all those blowers adds boost inside the cylinders. If the exhaust valves are still open when the piston covers the intake ports, all that boost will just bleed away, but if the exhaust valves close while the intake ports are still uncovered then the cylinders will have extra pressure, or boost.
He probable could have gotten the same power with the factory blower and a really big turbo charger, but it wouldn't look as cool.
