comp keeps saying i have a virus
hey guys im pretty computer illiterate and my computer keeps saying it has a virus......i used the ccleaner that came with the laptop and it said 30 viruses were found and deleted and the comp was all set to go. however, win 7 home security keeps popping up saying i have 33 more viruses so i downloaded avg? after a quick google search of good free antiviruses, ran it and it said all the files were good no viruses detected. however the win 7 home security keeps popping up saying i have 33 viruses still.......ideas? other spyware i can get? i loose a comp just about every 2 years due to it crashing and the harddrive getting fried but this one is pretty new and i dont want to go through getting a new one again. thanks!

Win 7 Home Security is a new fake antivirus / antispyware application. CNet has removal tools as well as Norton and others. I would use one of the below tools. If you have a restore CD you could always just back your data up and move on.

I will say I have not tested all of the above.

I have gotten C:MAL pop ups when I used Webroot. Turned out to be false. My comp crashed nonstop last week until my manager did a full system restore on it. He told me Windows Defender was all I need. I wish I knew this sooner and had an external flash drive so I could have kept all the pics I had saved. Oh well...so far...so good.

Since you're computer illiterate (no jabbing, just stating a fact), I'm not going to suggest to you what combination of programs I use to protect myself (no viruses in 7 years *knock on wood*). Avast Anitvirus is one of the best free applications out there. I use it in conjuction with Spyware Search & Destroy...best combo you can run.
PS: AVG is junk.

I full agree that Avast is the best of the free stuff. I used to use Spybot Search and Destroy, and Lavasoft, but now Malwarebytes, Combofix, HijackThis, and Stinger seem to be more accurate in terms of actually "fixing" an already infested computer.
Restoring an image is often the quickest and fastest way to recover from an infestation. All my data and all my client's data are on servers so an infested desktop is no big deal to reload from an stored image file.
I have found it best to always use a separate drive for data, even in the most simple desktop scenarios...

download microsoft security essentials. it is a GREAT free product and will fix many issues. use firefox and you will not get infections unless you are downloading torrents or using peer to peer file sharing...

you must not have a lot of clients... that is a LOT of space to waste to store backups for everyone on a server. we just use separate data drives so that we can reimage the OS and keep the clients data. they have to reinstall all their apps but that is all done with launchers anyway...
this is the best solution along with using windows 7's backup.

About 400 total seats... NAS boxes for images. Servers all virtual. Desktop images are small since all data is on the server and storage is cheap. Clients are all high end types where simple and fast resolution is paramount. We have our own "cloud" server recovery in event of catastrophic event.
All backups are Symantec BESR or SSR.

What's wrong with AVG?? I've never had a problem with it.
One of the best programs I've ever used is Malwarebytes anti-malware. It has never let me down in removing most of those visual malwares(such as the antivirus windows one)
