Nissan 240sx RB26DET

ok so im heading home on HW 301 from hanging out with some friends. I catch up with old 90s model Nissan and hear the typical ricer rumble. I get closer and i can see that the guy is riding on some 24"s and some pretty wide tires, i can also see that he actually has a full exhaust on the car (not just the muffler). So im thinking to myself "ill see if hes really got anything."

i pull up beside him and kinda pace him for a few seconds. nothing. I do a couple of quick little pulls just to get his attention. Finally i hear him start to squeeze the gas and i can see him starting to come up on me. I wait until he gets even on my bumper and i floor it and proceed to walk away from him easily. To say the least i was a little disappointed.

He gets back up beside me but at this point we had entered the city so there was no chance for a second race. He does however put his turn signal on and turn into a gas station, so i follow him in to check out his whip (ride, car, wheels whatever you prefer).

Turns out the guys had just installed a RB26DET in that little 240 and hadnt gotten it tuned yet. thats why he didnt want to run me. It was the first time i had seen one of these motors up close. That thing looked massive! and the turbo he had on it was the size of my head (he said it was a GT42). Dude said he was gonna get it tuned later this month and was hoping for 600hp on pump and close to 700hp on race gas.

It really was a surprise to find a car like that in my neck of the woods. Can't wait to race him when he gets it tuned so i can see how fast he walks away from me haha.

i got an exhaust on the way for my stock ss, hoping for 450rwhp on pump gas and 550 on race gas

cool that he expects that, but i try not to pay till they pull out real dyno sheets or time slips

Those cars with that motor can mean BIG TROUBLE us Supra owners...... Lots of respect for them.

Yeah, I don't see too many of those around anymore, just like Supra's.

With a GT42r on that engine those numbers are realistic.

RB26det, name is in the title. Its the skyline 2.5 liter inline 6 turbo. RB=race bread with oil squirters crank cage and some other little race inspired engine quirks. They can be very fast but its more common these days to see a ls1 in a 240sx as they are just as cheap, easier to build and come by.

Which is why i was so pumped about seeing it. b/c it isnt like my town has a bunch of high dollar rides (my town consists of one stop light).

I was thinking the same thing. That's almost conservative for that turbo. that turbo should be able to move the cfm for even more than that.

yeah i saw it in the title just had no idea what it was from. now that you enlightened me a lil, DAMN! that is awesome. op good thing he wasnt tuned or you woulda been band aid'n your hiney hole!!!

haha naw it would ahve been all good. Thats what you get racing on the street. it would have been a good beat, and it would have been really fun watching that thing move. He says he goes up to Fayetteville and races there at the strip. So if any of yall guys goes up there, watch out for him!

haha yeah i agree. i raced a c6 zo6 once just for fun. he still had paper plates on it. by the time i was topping out 1st his rear bumper was about a car i front of mine
