Question about Roof on 02 Trans Am
Ok, I have been looking around for a T/A (CETA PREFERRED) and have found a T/A but the roof of it has bubbles. (what i think looks like cancer spots) Does anyone know or heard of these being a problem or even know what it is or what causes it. The car is located out West and it tends to get 110+ degrees during the summer time but its a dry heat compared to the humidty we have here in Texas. Thanks in advance. Sorry if this has been brought up before...

Sail panels have a big issue on this.
Search around cause someone has a detailed process of replacing the panel and no more probs.

It's a well known problem in the f-body community. Has to do with the adhesive they used to install the sail panel. If you look closely you'll see it follows a glue line. Most if not all cars will develop it sooner or later. Mine started to bubble up sitting in the garage.

If you repaint the sail panels without removing it, will the bubbles pop-up again?

Ok thanks, got it all. The question is, if I sent it to a body shop, what are the odds this wont happen again? Is it the specific glue gm used?

When I think about how they glued the panels together, I often picture a one tooth wonder on a step stool with a cigarette in their mouth, one eye closed and a caulking gun. "there fix-ed her real goods! Whens lunch?"

Mine just started bubbling like 8 months ago and now looks like shit up close. I polish it every chance I get so I looks good from about 5 feet away.

The repair is to remove, and discard the existing roof. Then remove the existing urethane adhesive. The new roof pieces are not porous as the originals are, this as why they bubble. Gas from the adhesive seeps through the roof panel, and comes from under the paint, This is why the original roof panel must go. no matter how many times you "repaint" it will come back.
The "new urethane" is a different type. and the new panel will be primed on all surfaces, even underneath. Get the paint job to match, and you are ready to drive again.
Expect a $900.00 bill for this job. I know, because I had it done.
Thanks, Roger
