This is what the "JUDGE" does to a target at 15 feet... 5 rounds of #4 shot.

I have that lil side by side coach shotgun in .410....I mean it goes pop and goes through paper and all....but I just dont think a guy in a heavy coat and 3" of fat is gonna be hurt enough to stop ....versus say....my .45 or 9MM +P+ JHP....and of course any of the rifles in .223 or 7.62 gonna stop him quick.

I agree on the .410 scatter gun part. I want a Judge just to shoot and have fun with it. It would not be a home def weapon for me. Heck your link proves it is not a good gun for that choice. Now I have a 12 gauge scatter that with buck or slug, will drop that fat guy with a heavy 3" coat with no question.

I like the Judge. If I lived in the country I'd own one for sure.

Thanks for the link. I was one of those who was under the impression that a .410 Slug had the punch of a .41 Magnum. Wow. Big disappointment there.

If I was a bad guy instead of just an old asshole....I would want everybody to be armed with a Taurus Judge.

I never understood the basic theory behind the Judge as a defense weapon. The way I understand the argument is that you load the first chamber with a 000 .410 shell and then follow with on the double tap with 45 LC. That way you are more likely to hit the first shot if you are panicked; thus slowing the BG and allowing you to follow up.

I think most people are much worse on the double tap anyway, your group size is expected to double under stress of self defense. Doesn't this mean you want to be able to have knock down power with the first shot and everyone after that?

I don't know, but if all I had on my nightstand was a Taurus Judge, I'd have it loaded with 4 .45 Long Colt silvertips, and the last shot would be .410 scatter ammo. Whatever 2 3/4 stuff I could find that was close to buckshot, but has more pellets than what that guy was shooting.

Because if the first 4 didn't hit or stop the gang of attackers, that 5th one might just cause enough havoc to buy me enough time to reload or get the hell outta there!!

One point I might add on that link is that .45 Long Colt doesn't have to expand. It punches a pretty big hole, and has killed a fair share of folk in its day. I'd feel confident with that gun that whoever I take aim at with the first shot was going to fall hard.

XD's are great guns. I love my XD45 and the next handgun I get will most likely be the XDM. I am not a huge fan of 9mm but it is hard to go wrong with 19 rounds out of a handgun.

Yeah I went through tons of personal/interweb research on calibers....short of lining up some liberal sum bitches for real world testing....but using dead hogs for my test "laboratory"....I can tell you the penetration and wound channel from a 9mm +P+ Hollow Point (NATO) is just as deadly as a .40 or .45.
The entire "stopping power" discussion of any caliber is always ended with shot placement. Practice....then go practice some more.
9MM+P+ is cheap and abundant. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/AMM406-5.html
100FPS slower than a .357SIG.....(no difference).....and give me 15+ rounds in the gun with an additional magazine....hell yes...I'll take 31 shots of +P+ 9MM hanging on my belt any old day of the week.
These American manufacturers and some South American gun makers have "disclaimers" about +P or +P+ ammo...what a load of shit...all a +P or +P+ is is a standard European (NATO) 9MM round....USA powered the round down by about 20% for some bullshit reason......so I powered it back up
I have shot thousand and thousands of +P+ in all my 9MM weapons with no ill effects at all.
