    Old cars..

Anyone have some old car tricks? Like when I pull the vacuum advance off around non car-savvy friends (yeah listen to that idle, 400 horses right there). I drained the old t350 and filled it back up with atf type f based on some old timers' recommendations. it shifts good now. And my grandpa always tells me about how he would go around town and turn the ignition off then on while coasting, it'd scare the shit out of people apparently Any others or old car stories? I'm bored...

Yep that would sometimes make them back fire. Heard someone say putting mothballs in the fuel tank boosted octane too. Never tried it though, just sounds very bad to do to any vehicle..

I used to bend the rod connected to the secondaries on my 4bbl's to get the back barrels open a hair quicker and flip the breather lid upside down for old school cold air. Ran glass packs on a few cars. Drive it around and get them good and hot then stop by a car wash and stick the wand up the tail pipe.

Faggots at Midas made me get rid of my packs- really long quiet "blue streak" ones. Looking to screw me, they claimed they were illegal and would fail my inspection or i'd have to get new mufflers. Ended up with Flow 40's and hate them, like I knew I would.

Need to try that, the old quadraflood acts like turbo lag, except that it's still slow after the secondaries open up One of my dad's coworkers is giving me a thunder avs eddie which has adjustable secondary opening fo' free. I love when people get frustrated with carbs

yup, also heard of sticking a screw through the secondary linkages of the holleys with vacuum secondaries. If it was placed in the right spot gave ya both primary and secondaries @ 1/2 throttle too.....

It sounds like a black hole is under the hood when the giant ass secondaries open up. Too bad it's still slow. And it's got the baby primaries for torque and mileage. I'll miss it, sort of. Can't tune anything on it externally

I removed the secondary linkage on my Monte,I wanted power and wanted it NOW.had a problem with a gas station that had alot of water in its fuel, worse part it was in the winter so that crap would freeze. used my moms hairdryer to thaw out the lines to start the car.

I could be wrong, but it only worked on manual transmission vehicles I think. Keeping the clutch engaged with the ignition off would allow the mechanical fuel pump to keep pushing fuel into the cylinders, and by turning the ignition back on (while moving) would reintroduce spark, igniting all the fuel in the combustion chamber and the exhaust system. I guess it was a hell of a loud way to scare people and grenade your old muffler at the same time.

not exactly on the same lines, but for a prank we put a wet cigarette butt on a couple of spark plugs. Car would run great for a little bit as long as the butt stayed wet, but after a little bit it dried out and of course ran terribly.

My dad had said that he pranked one of his friends by wiring the brake to the horn.

I would think if you let off at a high enough rpm the converter wouldn't slip enough not to restart it?
My grandpa said his car was an auto.

With an auto you can put it in 2nd or 1st, build up some speed and shut off the ignition. Pump the gas pedal once and turn the key back on. I blew a turbo muffler in half doing this, and according to my buddies shot a flame about as long as the car out of the tail pipe. Had the cops called on me one night because people thought I was shooting at them.
