How strong is a aluminum LS1?
I'm wanting to build a track car with a ls1 and i'd rather use a alumium ls1 than a cast iron (to save weigth), but i heard there only good up to 600hp? as i heard they start warping after this much power.
obviously just talking about the block as i'd use forged internals. i'm looking around 650hp for the track but want more if i ever take it to the drags or whateva future purpose prob about 850 for drags.
also heard the post 2003 aluminum ls1's are stronger than the 97 -03 ones
so real question is how strong is the alumium LS1? and how much hp will it hold without warping

Well, I have driven a friends 99 Z28 that makes 700hp on a stock 99 block & crank. Has been this way for at least 2 years with no problems. It is a rear Turbo car.

Hmm i see, yes i definately plan on turboing it (twin turboing), would be happy if it could do 900hp safely since i want around 800-850 to take to the drags most prob from boosting the turbos more. but 600 is good for the track.
nows just the delema of weather to go with the slightly heavyer iron block(which handles 1800hp no problem) or lighter alumium block

Ive [U]Heard[/ U] Stock block/crank are good for 1000hp. I've seen a forged internals car w/ 350 shot goes 5.80's in the 1/8th.
