Is the new G8 worthy of Firehawk title?
http://wot.motortrend.com/6439658/af...ame/index.html
So i want to know how many of you guys out there think that the G8 is worthy of the Firehawk title?
My opinion is no. Firehawk started with the Firebird and should have ended with the Firebird. Just seems like SLP is just trying to cash in on the name now.

Its a nice car and I would love to have one but it just seems like they have no originality and reuse the name on a car that has no lineage to that name other then the Pontiac name and the fact that it is using a LS series engine.

We had a similar discussion on another forum and I voted NO. The FIREHAWK name belongs on the Firebird due to the fact that the HAWK is a type of bird, like PHOENIX, SCREAMIN CHICKEN, FIRE CHICKEN. To give the G8 the Firehawk monicker, IMO, is a complete bastardization. There is absolutely no meaning whatsoever. No "spirit". And what if the Firebird does, in fact, rises again? Would be redundant, dont ya think? A G8 AND a Firebird Firehawk? NO!
Call the G8 FIRESTORM rather than FIREHAWK.
SLP...YOU BETTER READ THIS!!!

Well this sorta goes down the path of the "new" GTO.
Yes I own a 2004 GTO.
Yes my first muscle was a 1965 GTO.
Yes I had other GTO's along the way.
Yes it pissed me off Pontiac/GM/Holden chose to call this car the GTO.
With that said....
The new GTO is a kick ass muscle car. But they shouldn't have called it the GTO. Call it anything but a GTO. Just like this Firehawk thing. Looks like a kick ass car and I'm glad as hell Pontiac is making us a kick ass 500HP car....but call it anything but the Firehawk./
Sorta like your favorite Dog..... Randy the Dog died. You don't go out and get another dog and name him Randy the Dog. You call him Rusty or Bowzer....anything but Randy the Dog.

There actually was a 1970's Pontiac "Boat" called the Firehawk before SLP ever did it to the T/A. Not sure what actual car it was. Guy at a local shop has one.

How about G8 Supercharged? Or G8 SLP? I agree, it should not be called Firehawk due to obvious connections with the Firehawk name with the Firebird.

I think it'd be alright... As long as they let the firebird die... It went out sexy, and with a bang... May it R.I.P...
But they could call it the GR8 1...
or,
G8500...
