There is a thred right below about the same thing. No real answers yet but I would research the differamce between the LT1 clutch kit and an LT4 see if there is a differance. Lots of aftermarket stuff out there too. Find names of stuff and search the site if you don't get any replys, maybe u will find an old thread

If you dont have immediate plans for big power, stick with something mild, like a stock replacement, LT4 clutch, or similar. Aftermarket clutches, for the most part, suck. Their driveability sucks, and they're just not fun to drive around with.

When I did a clutch in my wifes 97Z about a year ago,,,No one even offered the LT4 clutch anywhere that I could find.
I guess much like the heads and intakes,,,they were discontinued with the rest of it.

I ended up going with a Ram HDX setup which is a semi-metalic clutch that is considered a mild upgrade from a stock setup.
It worked well and grabbed like crazy but it always had a slight chatter problem with low rpm easy driving,,,funny though when you got aggressive with it,,,it would smooth right out.

Other than that I had no complaints. If I were to do it over I'd probably shoot for something different though.

oh ok well i am looking at a bunch of like ram and mcleod and spec stage 2 kits but man they are pretty pricey and i did my research and alot of this kits like i just listed all use the same lt4 pressure plate made by valeo or however u spell it , they usually put a sticker over it or their logo.. i am looking at the same clutch kit at autozone and oriellys and they both have the lt4 clutch kit but i was thinking about using the lt4 pp and gettin just a disk from somewheres else, but as of now i do not have no big plans for big power at all!! so i am thinking about going with the one at autozone/oriellys, but i just wanted to get everyones opinion on it and such....but do i need to get my flywheel resurfaced or turned or what?

I've heard alot of the aftermarket has copied the LT4 pressure plate. I just couldn't find a complete LT4 setup from GM or otherwise at the time.
But there are alot of other good choices out there but like you said,,,just have to spend the money.

I would definately resurface the flywheel...

Ya I've never been a fan of the discs you get at autozone and some of the other outlet stores. I've had them fly apart in the past when I was running them. Thank god I was using the old cast iron bellhousings.
After a couple of tries with that I went back to a Hays disc and never had a problem. I kinda like my toes

We are talking many years ago with some old school stuff,,,maybe they make them better now??? I'm not willing to try again though.

I've always stuck to a good name brand like McCloud, Ram, Hays, Centerforce. Plenty to choose from and price shop for.

I tend to stick with what I know. Although there are alot of LS guys that seem to like that Spec clutch. Not sure if they make something for LT1 or not.

The LT4 pp is what I am running and I have 430hp at the tires. Good hold, but it will slip a little if I don't lift between shifts. It feels just like stock, I recommend. I have the LT4 disc. You can buy the LT4 pp and disc from GMPartsdirect.com for $400. Howeverm, I would recommend taking your LT1 disc and having it resurfaced with better grade material(like the Spec 2 or 3) and that will allow you to keep the springs that soften the hit to the tires and give you more grab. I have a LT4 pp brand new in the box, if you want to buy it. I think will be going Spec Stage 3 or 3+ eventually. Take a look at LMP to see those prices.

The LT4 pp is brand new. It does have a throw out bearing. It does not have a disc. I do have my used LT1 disc that could be rebuilt. I have some pictures also. Email me or call me if you are interested.
