Black- 2001 Trans Am WS6
need new ignition assembly plus keys
My longtime housemate demolished the only set of keys to my 2001 Trans Am WS6 by driving over them with a riding lawn tractor.
We found the mangled and notched trunk key, the fob in pieces, and the straightened key ring, but no ignition key...so no coding to make a new key, which makes locksmith key replacement roughly a $500 job!
Classic driver rather than mechanic here...but it is my understanding that the computer handshake is only between the key and the ignition.
Thus, if I can find a replacement ignition assembly that comes with its own set of keys, from a junkyard or a parts dealer, I hope we can just replace the ignition assembly and bypass the entire problem.
If you have any insights or suggestions on where to find an ignition assembly with its own set of keys, please let me know!
Many thanks!

It is actually between the key, the ignition lock and the car bcm.
You have 3 options.
1 - dealership, take your registration and they can order the correct key.
2- vat bypass mod. it's not difficult but there are IIRC 13 possible chips to choose from.
3 have a tuner or tuning software turn off vats.http://www.ls1.com/forums/f7/my-6-liter-build-174257/
