If you take them out, some people claim to get a horsepower or two. The only problem is if anything gets past your air filter, your motor is toast. I just took out my MAF the other day to clean it. Not only was it dirty, it had about 10 or so really small leaves in it. The car runs like a dream now. Not sure if the leaves would be enough to kill the motor, but Im sure engine specs dont call for folage.
I had a performance MAF and had issues with tuning. I put the stock untouched one back on and tune went well. The stock MAF is good for 500hp. I would just stay with the stock untoched MAF, just clean it.
It's used to prevent turbulence in the sensor housing which can cause false readings.
You said it better Marc

while i agree that that its a good idea to leve it in due to miniscule hp gains, and it providing that extra line of protection......i would double check your issues with getting leave etc in there,....you have a leak somewhere near you intake filter......if you are letting in leaves then a lot of other shit is coming in with it,....particles that are def going to get into your engine,...i would check you intake connections and seals and find where that leak is...
Yes, I agree with you. However, I just go tthe car and there look like no leaks. I am not sure what the prior owner did, he may have ran it without a filter or just didnt seal the lid right. Im monitoring it now, but I plan to put the Volant intake as soon as I have some extra cash. Either way the MAF screen saved me some heartache.
good to know........ehy what are the prices of f-bodies in guam?? how hard was it to get the f-body there? just curious. good luck with your new ride
Well, I picked up the V-6 about 8 years ago and wanted to upgrade after I bought it. I just got the T/A about 3 months ago. As for the price, basically whatever we ask, since there are only 5 here. As long as we are underbluebook with an additional $1500 shipping, that is the start of negotiations.
the motor is built to run on them - GM service bulletin 37468.23 section 12 ( multi flex fuel/folage) lol sorry I couldn't help myself.
unless you are going to do some tunning I'd leave the screen in the maf. I bought an slp maf and never did get it tuned in right, now I am running a speed density tune and don't have a maf.....took a lot of time to tweek my ve tables but got the goat running great....and I do mean lot of time.
your stock maf is supposed to beable to handle close to 600 hp
agreed I wouldn't change out the stock maf unless you had a good reason to...
the point that I would upgrade my stock maf to an 85mm is when/if I get a 90mm intake/tb and 85mm lid... at that point there wouldn't be much use in having a 78mm screened maf in the middle but before that point I don't see the use. I would never bother de-screening a maf anyway... at any point.
is Delphi the manufacturer of the stock mafs too Mr Lous.?
I believe so. The stock on is just calibrated for the LS1 F-Body...and the SLP/Delphi one isn't.
:yup:
Rip off the SLP logo....and it says Delphi. :lmao:

LOL unbelievable... what about Granatelli? I've never heard bad things about them but that doesn't mean they don't have horror stories themselves...
I recommend sticking with your stock MAF.
Or going Speed Density tune.
bah the hell with speed density tune... :Puke: I've heard horror stories... then again I've heard bad things about every option out there...
I'm asking cause I'm puchasing a 85mm gran. maf because as I said before I think its worth while when upgrading your entire intake side... we'll see I'm giving it a shot...
what do you run Luos? speed density on the old stroker?
