I'm 18 years old, and have a nice cond 1998 SS camaro, what do you think the outcome would be if i went to a pontiac dealer and asked to test drive an 05 LS2 GTO, saying i wanna sell my Camaro and put like 5k down.
Would they let me test drive it?

Most likely, but they will want to go along. They may want to pre-approve a loan before hand if they are real dicks.
yea i'm just gonna walk if they try to do that, f that shit
The Pontiac dealer always came along with me when I took the good cars out. I just gave them one hell of a ride. I'm not affraid to put the pedal down when they are in it.
I went to 2 differint lots ...one did one did not ... but I had to sighn this insurance thing at the one the salesman didnt come along ...
oooo i'd love if the person didnt come along, i'd give that GTO a good thrashing, come to think of it, i'm gonna try this method with a Dodge charger and the new mustang, i'll do a mini car and driver ad.
lol
you know I wish I had test drove a new Mustang GT before I bought the GTO... I would not have bought one , but would have liked to see how they drove ....
The Mustang doesn't even compare to a GTO. You'd need lots of mods on a Mustang to even make them worth while.
Id like to test drive one. How are dealers if you walk into a place and just say, "I want to test drive a GTO?"
Like I said above, they usually want to go along and don't have a problem with you getting on it.
This would be the recommended method for a 18 year old to "test drive" a new GTO : Bring your drivers license, your insurance card and a copious amount of CASH ( 33k should do ) There ya go your off on a test drive.
yea its all dependant on the salesman. i usually go for the youngest looking salesman. for some reason i get the best luck in treatment with younger ones. they dont treat me like a punk kid. the time i went to drive a GTO the salesman came with.he showed me a place behind a grocery store where he took people to do doughnuts and big smoky burnouts. then i took him up to 120 on the highway. Best salesman i have delt with.
my advice one 18 year old to another is go for a young salesman.
Well dont just go to the lot and say 'I want to test drive that GTO...' Just go up to the car and start walking around it and looking at it and messing with anything that will move on it ....Esp try the door handels , even if they are locked ..Then a sales guy will come up ...and Blah blah blah for a while .. They will usualy ask you if you want to take a test drive ...
I drove to a Pontiac dealer in Atlanta once. Pulled up in an '03 Lightning - just after I had detailed it. Walked over, checking out an '04 GTO they had (new at time). Dealer would not let me test drive it saying some BS about how owners were picky and wanted no miles on their GTO's.
Fast forward to a couple weeks ago, I've been to two or three different dealers in PA and all were more than willing to let me test drive the GTO's. Both automatic, and manual, to test the differences. If you're honest with them, they'll let you drive one. Hell, I even told them I wasn't in the market yet - just doing research.
yea i think the only thing against me will be my age, i'm just hoping that taunting them with my SS will help out :)
i thought there was some rule that you had to be 21 to test drive a car?? :ripped:
No rule, it all depends on the dealer and their insurance.
most dealers say u must be 18 or older. i went to a dealer once when i was 17 looking at a Pontiac Grand prix GTP and they said if i came saturday i could test drive it because the insurance doesnt cover them on saturdays or something. it was weird, but the car was nice
the best thing to do if you really just want to test drive it and you're not going to buy one.... BS the salesman. My g/f and I used to do that all the time back when I was 18-19. We would go out to a car lot and when the sales guy asked if I was interested in buying, I would say "yeah, my parents are giving me $15,000 for graduation to put down on a car since I did so well in school.... so I'm just out checking out how a few different cars drive to see what I want."
We used that routine test driving a few corvettes and such. worked every time
