I'm getting calls from people saying gas is going through the roof in a couple hours, anyone else heard this?
no. i hope you're wrong though
lovely
Why would it go up substantially?
Normally i would right this off as paranoia, but i'm talked to several people that don't know each other and they all say a $1.25 jump is coming. Figured i would ask here since this is a car site.
The only thing i could think of is the Saudi/Opec thing that just happened.
No its true, over here right now its 3.59 but expected to be over 5 tomorrow
Not to mention the hurricane
i better head to walgreens and stock up on vaseline. i have a feeling im going to get fuckd.
So how do you square that info with this: http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=96882
saudis left opec because they dont want to cap their oil production. so they will produce as much or more than what they were. Simple logic tells me that there will be more oil produced so prices should go down...
Ok my room mate just said the same thing. Then, not 15 min later, as I was on the phone with my girl in Miami, she got a txt saying the same shit.
2 people that know nothing of each other, from different parts of FL saying this shit? Thats the most powerful rumor ever. And Ive seen nothing on TV lately..
subscribing to both contradicting threads to see wtf is going on... lol
Hey I went and filled the T/A a little while ago it was 3.52 a gallon here in Knoxville,Tn and they where selling plus for the same price as regular since they were already out. Then right after that he turned the light off to shut down since they were almost out of that. I have had one friend say it is going to be 4.50 and another said 5 by tommorrow.
I just filled up a few minutes ago just in case...I was going to tomorrow anyway.
Oh Jesus H. Christ, don't everyone go all Mad Max now. It's a freaking rumor. Gas is not going up eleventy billion dollars a gallon tomorrow.
we're all gonna die, that's it depression here we come....I'm already in the bread line....I hope everyone knows how to do something usefull like work a shovel and dig a bomb shelter
Yea it will, the refinurys (sp)? are closing due to hurricane BS and it takes a while to reopen so the supply and demand will be up due to shortage of gasoline.
does anyone find it ironic, that today is 9/11, and this huge rumor is just exploding?
I fucking hate the government
damn i just got home, read this, turned back around and filled up
Guys this isn't bullshit. I just went and filled up. Every gas station was slammed, walmart and kroger were sold out and the gas station I filled up at after standing in line for awhile even had cops there. The cashier said that it was going up to 5.05 (currently at 3.59)
the news here tonight said to expect it to go to over $4 a gallon tomorrow but it's already $3.89 right now. That's an 11 cent jump for those following along. :D
We are all fucked
I just paid 4.38 earlier today. I was thinking Saudi production up = prices down. Rifinery production down = prices up. 1 up + 1 down = stay the same maybe?
We're not all fucked. Geeze. It's a farkin hurricane. Something like 1/4 of US gasoline is refined from crude here in the Houston area. We're under a major shut down because of Ike. Like all storms, he'll PASS!
And just like all excuses they use to raise gas prices this will follow:
Random person: "Man, gas is high at $3.50"
Gas station: "Gas is now $5.00"
Random person: "WTF!!!!!!!"
Gas station: "Gas is now $4.50"
Random person: "About time prices went back down to normal"
Life then continues at $4.50 a gallon...at least it's not $5 eh?
I would be happy if it would just stay at 3.00 and stayed like that but even then it would still be expensive
i jsut filled up a couple of our cars, and gas station attendant has heard nothing and all seems fine so far there
HOW GAY IS THIS:
I called up 2 gas companies and they both said they can't disclose how much the price of their gas is over the phone! ?!?!?! :wtf: fucking :bs: they said it was against the law!?
I'd say it's to keep companies from price fixing.
Well we shall find out after tonites rest, ima wake up early just to find out.
I'm going to go fill up just in case.
Look at this folks, there's a hurricane getting ready to hit the Texas gulf coast where a lot of oil rigs and refineries are located, as we know. Gas always rises because they evacuate the employees that run these rigs and refineries and no oil is pumped or refined.
This hurricane will blow through in a day or two and the weekend pass will no longer be in effect for these guys. PLUS, the price of sweet crude oil is currently around $101-102 per barrel. That's the lowest it's been in 6-8 months!
Once Ike passes over the coast and goes inland away from the energy belt, all will be fine. Don't you guys watch the market? The dollar has strenghened while causing oil to come down.
Take it easy!
the most expensive place here just dropped his price again for the second time this week.......i hope thats the trend..:yup:
im ready to leave work, right now.. and filll up. im not even kidding.
Gas jumped from $3.67 last night to $3.99 here in Augusta. I don't know if it will reach $5 but it was a .32 jump over night. Luckily for me...I was able put some fuel in the Expedition this morning on Fort Gordon for $3.54. The Z is good, as it has been in the garage most of the week because of the rain.:)
Um here in central texas gas went up like 3 cents yesterday. Big whoop.
It isnt going to jump that high in such a short time. You guys are so gullable you believe anything you hear.
And on that note.......... You dont have the biggest dick your girls ever had. Now go cry.
gas prices are still the same around here...
They're gonna go up some but it's because the gasoline refineries are all here... in Houston... watching Ike roll up like a steroid juiced road rage.
The gas companies ALWAYS find some way to raise the prices. I'm sure it's because of the refineries near houston is their excuse. But in reality....if the refinery shuts down for a day or two....how adversely can that really effect the gas supply??? Not that much to warrant price hikes that I'm sure will be upwards to 25 cents a gallon for several weeks. But doesn't matter what the common people think....won't change anything. The fat cats just keep gettin richer. :bomb:
shitty thing is that the gas went up last year due to hurricanes...and it never went down b/c we all coped with the change. They'll do it again and not drop it...again.
has not moved here, just went out and stoped to get gas still 3.85
It looks like the 70s all over again outside here.
I left out about 9am, and most gas stations were already out of regular. By 11 though people were lined up at stations and swerving across traffic to get into a station with an open pump. The little restaurant I went in for lunch was full of people basically going "wtf!". Almost had 3 wrecks within a 15 minute drive.
And gas has jumped up $.50 in the past 3 hours at most major stations around here..
dayum, all this over speculation?
One gas station about 5 miles from my house jumped 1.30
Assholes
it has not moved here, lol got mine so im good for about 2 weeks being that I only drive to work now and no where else
withen the next two weeks it should drop pretty significantly witht he whould saudi and OPEC thing...
Still $3.6X/gal for 91 ($3.4X/gal for 87) here where I live.......
yup still the 3.79 what I paid yester day. Actually a cent cheaper but...
Dayton OH btw.
3.45 today, came down from the 3.49 I paid last night...thanks a lot FUCKERS!
That was mid grade in my parents car. Out of curiousity, is mid grade the cheapest everywhere in the nation? 87 is cheaper than 85. Crazy.
Gas better not spike though, I just got temporarily laid off at work. So spaz, I'll see YOU in the unemployment line.
I'm not sure of the price. All of ours are closed.
Up to $4.50 here. It was $3.67 or lower on the way home last night.
Well my corner Arco am/pm which typically has the lowest gas price in my area is down to $3.62 for regular. That's the lowest it's been in several weeks. Seems like the state funds come from gas tax. :cuss:
gas hasnt moved here yet
its already 5.09 in s. carolina, i was watching cnn at lunch.
I'm out of town on business right now and haven't heard any talk of this.
Was $3.79 this morning here. Now up to $4.09.
just heard from a friend gas went to 5.05, 45 mins south of Cincinnati outside of Lexington KY.
We had traffic stopped here with people lining up to get in the stations. That's why gas went up, because we are morons and panic at the drop of the hat. If everyone in the country runs to line up at the gas station at one time you're darn right prices are going to go up. Human's never cease to amaze me.
yea it was all a rumor
how is it a rumor if it's up over 5 in some places today?
Some places in Charlotte - like 850 miles from Houston, I guess - have raised the price of gas by over fifty cents in less than seven hours. The local media has covered the "ten gallon rationing" angle and basically caused a panic. Typical.
And there are the gas stations (Big Oil) ready to feast on the fear of the average citizen like a hungry vulture on some carrion. Oil just went under $100 a barrel in the last few days, Ike hasn't even hit yet (not reached full strength), and not only has the gas in the tanks went up in price, it seems like it went up in the hose too!!!
Come on you certain members who can rationalize all of this away with economics 101. Just remember, so can I, in one compound word:
Bullshit!!!
It was a rumor & everyone freaked out and ran to the gas station at one time all across the country. Ta Da! Gas prices jump. Sometimes we just do this stuff to ourselves.
I find myself usually supporting President Bush, even when the situation is questionable, but if he doesn't do something about this for the sake of the Country, I'll be the first to criticize him.
The Federal Government CAN freeze prices in times of a National emergency. Time to act upon that if IKE is gonna be such a hit.
You know I just thought..
Damnit, I just dropped a bunch of prices in my meat department Wedensday. Probably going to have to jack everything back up again this weekend..
Here's the media in Charlotte doing what they do best...over-reacting:
http://www.charlotteobserver.com/bre...ry/187804.html
3.52 here. That's actually 15 cents cheaper than it was a few days ago.
Trust me guys, gas is going down hard core pretty soon.
Here is what I saw.
This morning on my way to work the price of premium was 3.95, which was at 8 a.m. I went home at lunch and the price was up to 4.07 which was at 11:30 a.m. I had to stay home because of my roof is getting fixed so I am finally back at work and on my way in it is now 4.13.
That just amazes me that they can do that and their is no control. Wow....
I had to get gas because I was low so I paid 4.13 for it. /sigh.. So I left them a few black marks and told them to keep the change.
At the BP where I normally fill up, premium went from just over $4 Wednesday to $4.79 this afternoon. Now the NC Governor is having the AG start an investigation.
It might have some teeth too. A staqte of emergency was declared for Hurricane Hanna in NC, and that is supposed to freeze prices for 60 days (I think) on consummable goods like gasoline.
My Girl just called me and told me it 4.89.
It was fucking 3.85 when I left work at 330PM. !!!!
Shit is going to rise. For sure. Over 5 bucks/gallon soon.
I don't think it's changed at all here...
FACT i live in texas... we just had one jump of over 50 cents here... i will report back with the up to date price im about to find out... and how big the jump was
It was down to 3.62 for 93 this morning at the one Shell. I know where I'm filling up tonight:D
Some places here in Kentucky are selling gas at $4.09/gallon with a limit of 10 gallons!! There are lines of cars around the block at almost every station. I filled up my Jeep yesterday at $3.75 for a grand total of $82.00  Someone needs to murder the people behind this bullshit.
I cannot believe the mass hysteria. I am damn well not going to sit in long ass lines just for gas all on a fucking rumor. I expect it will go up, but not outlandishly and not permanently.
I'm just going to ignore it. I'll get gas when I need gas.
