who likes or dislike the dealership stickers on your cars?
I took mine off along with all pinstripes and decals.
I debadge all my trucks/cars except the Mercedes.....
I hate them and I WORK for a dealership. They make us put them on when we PDI cars. I hate the concept of advertising for someone and they aren't even paying you. You are paying them. Anything my family buys never leaves the dealer with those stupid stickers on.
What stickers? I bought my truck last year and it didn't have stickers :ripped:...except for the temp reg on the windshield. Cheapass dodge :)
Doesn't Carmax nazi that shit on there....like it has to stay for the warranty to remain valid?
yea they do put it everywhere, stickers and the tag holder
I don't know about now and I also can't speak for all dealerships, but the dealer I bought my old 96 from used a plate frame to advertise on. So did the dealer I bought the 2002 from here in AZ. I put the Cali frame on the 02 cuz the dealership was in Manhattan Beach. SoCal folks will know what I'm talking about.
I even have the original dealer plate frame from a no longer in business Chevy dealer in Long Beach on my 67. Unfortunately it's made from pot metal and looks 40+ years old.
Stickers??? We don' need no stinkin' stickers!
Dealership stickers are the suck... First things removed on my car was the license plate caddys and the dealer tag below my driver side tail lamp. No free advertising.
I requested one extra. Just because I wanted to show everyone I got a plumb job in the ass from buying my car new. Thanks. :)
good job po
still have my original Poughkeepsie Chevy sticker on the car not the license plate frame its in my garage.(my 01 z)
If they want to advertise on my car, they need to sponsor me- tires, gas, parts- yeah, I'll run your sticker- otherwise, sorry-
Hate 'em
Fuck advertising for them. First the ripp us off on a car then expect us to advertise...
and if they want us to leave the stickers on the car they should give us a break on the price of the car
Not only are they free advertising, nine times out of ten they are crooked as a muther!@#23
um yea that stupid ass sticker came off the second i left the lot with my car...
those sluts didn't put one on the Phoenix until I left the lot. Infact, i remember looking for one on there prior to signing the papers and had I found one would have told them to remove it or no deal. I guess they pulled the hold "pat on the back" trick and it wasn't till 3 days later i found it. Luckily it had be soo hot out the glue was still tacky enough to peel it off in one motion. Pricks.
See, us car enthusiasts hate the stickers but the dealers put them on because most people who buy a car simply for transportation (take no pride in their wheels) don't care in the least.
What is the safest way to go about removing the stickers?
Also, just thought I'd toss another log on the fire here...
I was leaving work yesterday and I see this new black Infinity G37 with the window sticker still up, wearing a hard plate RIVITED to the top left of the trunk!!!
Hate them.
Every car that I've ever bought, part of the contract is that any and all dealer decals, stickers, car tags, licence holders, etc are deemed a consent by the dealership as subcontracting me as a paid advertisement for them, and they agree to pay me 10,000 dollars IF the decals and such are still on the car by the time I finish signing the paperwork and handed the keys.
I'm not a rolling advertisement for a car dealership.
Last car I bought I made them take it off and buff out the outline from it... they didnt complain.
I refuse to buy the car if they slap one on there. I have told them i want it in writing it will not be on the car because lord knows the glue they use is a pain to get off.
Now I'm gonna have to go look for it. The car is in a zillion pieces (it's in paint jail) and it's in 1 of the several dozen boxes that contain pieces of the car.
When I find it I'll let you know. I know for sure it was a Long Beach, Ca dealer though. When I checked on it (back in 88 or so) they were out of business.
I would love to see one of these contracts with that written on it. :yup:
Most times if customers are nice, and just ask to have the sticker removed/ not put on, I make sure its not on the car. The ones who get nasty about it, or make a big deal, well shit, those are the ones who get the stickers, plate frames, and once a side to side windshield banner:kick:. But that was a special case.
And yes, I have lost sales, or refused to sell cars over this topic. Its all about tact, and wether people choose to use some.
when i bought my truck it had the stickers on it....told the dealer to pull em off or they would have to knock off 1000 off the price. They were off and the area buffed in 30 minutes. God I hate stickers
Whenever I buy a new vehicle when it is being cleaned up I tell them first off.... Do not screw a lisence plate bracket to the front bumper!!! Or you keep the car. I also tell them when your cleaning it up take any of your stickers, emblems, plate frames, etc. off as well, or once again.... You can keep the car.
Yeah I bet thats true. I would love to see you slap a windshield banner on a customers car that asked for stickers to be removed and then you refuse to sell them a car, because YOU didn't like THEIR (the customers) attitude. Yeah I bet you would keep your job as a car salesmen that way.
Sometimes its more about the principle of the situation. Basic human respect plays a factor in all things. Also, typically we're pretty decent about the shit we have to deal with, but once in a while, a customer will rub us the wrong way. At that point, is it worth the 50$ I make selling a new car to get treated like shit? No chance. So I'm not saying we tell every single person who requests no stickers to get bent, but there have been a few occasions where I let that 50$ walk away. Same goes for the banner. It got to the point where we didnt want thier business. We also kick people out if they get beligerent with us. No test drive, but you want to know what my "best price" is?? Get the ehf out.
You only make $50 on a new car. I thought it was a couple hundred depending on make ,model etc.. I was thinking about trying to sell cars at a dealership near by but not for money like that.
Im not sayin the pay isnt good. But used cars are for makin money, new cars are to make units. Plus it depends on what cars you sell. I sell Subaru, and there is no markup in them to make anything on, with a few exceptions. Tribecas, and turbo cars have some money, but NA 4 cylinders you have to sell lots of to make some money.
i said to take that chit off before I write any checks or drive anything off the lot.. nothin like free advertising and uneven paint wear.
Dude you work in retail. It's your job to take shit from customers. I do it every day for no commission. A couple of calls to corporate and you would be selling cars somewhere else, no matter if the customer was an ass or not. If you really are turning down sales, especially in our economy and still have a job your dealership's management must be horrible. Although if I made $50 to sell a new car I wouldn't give a shit either. If thats all your making I would be looking for a new job on my own.
Yeeeeeeaaaaaahhhh..........no. Just because I work in "retail", that doesnt mean Im a professional shit heel. Attitudes like yours ("you work in retail, its you job to take shit") are what can make retail such hell. Ive been in commission sales for over 12 yrs. Every place I've worked, if the customer was a complete ass to the point of nonsense spewing from thier mouth, we would kick them the fuck out. As for turning down sales, thankfully, it doesn't actually happen that often. Normally, we can turn the customer who's being a dick, into a fairly reasonable human being with a little conversation and rapport building techniques. However, if they want to remain assholes, either the management or I will kick them out of my desk. The first time I saw someone get told to take thier credit card and shove it, I thought the same thing. I was then informed, we are people too. We dont have to tolerate that shit. Again I stress, this is not a constant occurence. We kick someone on average once every few months. But it does happen, and will continue to do so. Call corporate, tell them you wouldnt abide by corporate policy ie: it is mandated that the customer must take a test drive before discussing payments/price. They will say we did our job.
As for money, ask any car sales rep if they make huge money on new cars. Bet the answer is the same. New cars pay dick. It's used that make you the money. I might make 50$ on an 09 Forester sold for 500 below msrp, but I also made 1500$ on the 06 forester, and 07 outback I sold on saturday. I dont know about you, but covering my mortgage in one day is good enough for me.
I sold cars for awhile too.
Biggest liars & biggest cheats I ever encountered were customers.
I got tired of the assholes thinking I owed them a vehicle just because they came onto the lot, and the dickheads that came in just to fuck with you.
I've thrown my share of roaches off the lot.
Loved the used car market, but the $100 "mini" for new car sales sucked ass.
Seems like every roach I encountered had this idea I was making $5,000 off their sale! Yeah right asshole!
I worked at a pontiac dealership for awhile (well pontiac buick gmc) and had the t/a settingoutside one day. Well the owner got the bright idea that my car needed to advertise for them and while I was inside the shop he took the liberty to put one of there plastic badges on my car. I noticed it when I got home that evening and went in the next day ready to kill someone. When the owner/ boss told me it was him I demanded they remove it. He got his detail boy to come out and take it off and in the process he scratched the hell out of my paint. At that point i put in my two weeks notice and had them pay to have the car buffed by an auto body shop... took care of the scratches but talk about furious. Ive never wanted to strangle someone more than I did when i saw that stupid badge. Worst part was they placed it right beside my 5.7l gto badge and riped part of it up too so i had to get a new one.
LOL Glad Im not the only one to know the truth about this. And yeah, you shoudl see how quick the customers attitudes change when they hear just how much I make for spending upwards of 4 hours a day with them. They tend to act a little nicer at that point. New cars are just part of the game. Isnt it great how car salesmen are liars in everyones eyes? Ask yourself if you ever lied to a salesman. We cant lie about much because of the internet. Pricing is all available for those who look. The biggest lies I tell are usually oh, your an astophysicist? So's my brother/uncle/sister/mother...etc. But I never lie about the car, case in point, I will never sell a used BMW again as long as I live. Junk cars, and I warn people away fromt he one we have on the lot alll the time.
LOL...that's pretty funny.
the only thing i didnt get was why you wont talk price before a test drive. i never buy a car until i have the price first then the test drive. im not wasting my time driving it if the price isnt right.i also worked in a dealership once. i have to say car salesmens are right down there with lawyers and insurance agents. i know plenty of each persaonally and they are all the same. money for nothing most of the time. not just attacking you im just saying in general
Thats funny. As for price before the drive, until we've driven it the price is in the window. Enjoy. If we drive it and you liked it then we would be willing to start negotiating on the price to get you an additional savings. See the shoe is on the other foor here. Why do I wan tto waste my time working out a price for you if you dont like the car? Could be we spend 2-3 hours (avg negotiation time) to work out a price, and the the seats dont feel good, or theres a blind spot you just cant live with. As for wether you worked ina dealership, and fel that way about yourself, you of all people knwo how it is, so saying we're low as lawyers and insurance agents (which btw I was an insurance agent before I got into car sales, and was in pre-law throughout all of high-school) is simply proof that either you were a weak stick and couldnt hang, therefore have to save face by downing us, or you have completely forgotten what its like. Not trying to attack you, Im just saying, you know, in general.
Also, while Im still fresh, what exactly makes lawyers or insurance agents so low?? There both working to perform a service for you, the general public. Ill bet a million dollars if some asshole runs a light, and rams into your f-body, and has no insurance, your either a: calling your insurance agent if you have full coverage, and b: calling a lawyer to see how much you can sue the dumbass for. What makes either of those professions any worse then say a cop, (if they're doing thier job, Ill bet yer cussing them out) or a health inspector (if you own a resturaunt, you cuss them out whenever they pull up outside). Both of those professions are needed in society, and so too are lawyers, or insurance agents, as well as the dreaded car salesman.
One last thing, what if you did walk on the lot, car was priced at 25g's, you said whats my best price, and I actually told you how much we owned it for? You'd still think I was lying, inflatinig the price to make a buck. No one would believe it was a bottom line, and thus would want some more off. If we give you the net net net price, theres no where left to go. Remember, it's not the deal you get, its the deal you think you get. And that is my job, to make you think you got a great deal. Nine times out of ten, you did, but yet you still call us bad guys. And you were one. Thats fucked up.:soapbox:
i debadge all my vehicles....except my 2002 black z28....bought it from dale earnhardt chevrolet .....RIP Intimidator
Jesus! Where did you find this thread??
They ripped you off? Why did you buy it? Caveat Emptor Dummy
Everytime I had work done at a chevy dealer in WA. I'd get my car back with their licsence plate frame !
Wow, I still get all heated when I see this thread, and that was almost a year ago. Damn. BTW Im still at the same dealership I was when I wrote all that.
^-i feel the same way,car salesman get a bad rep.i wouldn't go back into that line of work, also sucks to spent time showing a car, test drive, negotiaton, and then the deal falls apart because their trade isn't worth as much as they want(it never is,btw).
Had them remove the stickers before it left the lot. They bitched and moaned about it but they wanted to sell the car more.
Damn just read the thread and realized how old it was.
I own an automobile dealership. I have been in the business since I was 16 (41 now). I dont like license plate frames, and I only put our sticker on when they purchased the vehicle from us. It allows my service personnel to give prefferential treatment to our customers. This does not mean better work, it means loner cars, rides home, and sometimes taking care of repairs free of charge. ANYONE whe feels that dealerships rip them off should be doing business at a different dealership, or buy from a private party. You should NEVER part with your money unless you feel your being treated fairly and professionally! Just my take on the "advertising-sticker" thing. See ya all on the highways!
