He also was into drag racing. He had a 54 Ford with a Nasty 427 in it for a street toy. I'll try to find some pics. I've been playing drums for 41 years myself give or take a few months (yes, I'm an old fart). I've seen both Vinnie and Lars numerous times. I consider Vinnie the better drummer. Lars Ulrich, although a good fit for Metallica, is nowhere near the top 100 alltime best drummers.....

Death metal drummers do tend to be better than most owing to polyrythmic playing skills. AFAIC, all drummers have something to offer, even simple rythyms as these types are what make for pop music's popularity as the drums (unless your a drummer of some sort) tend not to be a lead instrument.

Peart, as well as others (surely you don't think BR couldn't have played rock if he wanted to) have capabilities beyond what they tend to express for $$$.

Have you seen NP doing the BR tribute? Big band jazz is just as easy to play as most rock songs.

I haven't read all of the replies but I'm voting for Rush drummer Neil Peart. Come to think of it, Travis Barker is a bad motherfucker as well.

Jason Bittner from Shadows Fall. If you have never seen him or heard him and you are a drummer you soon will. I'd say his chops are on par with Peart, and his double bass technique is FLAWLESS!!

If you dont like him why were you gonna post it? Guys like Hoglan and Reinhart are more than just fast they can pretty much do it all. Ever listen to a Cynic album? I'm sure they can both play every Rush song ever made, not vice versa.

I was going to post it and say just bout the same thing ...... Never really like drum solos or bass solos that much... Guitar solos are OK if there not to long .. All those solos can kill a good show ..... Some songs have a good drum solo built into them and thats Ok.. but a 5 min drum solo can get a little long no matter who did them....

Personaly I think there's alot of better drummers out there than Neil Peart. Dennis Chambers for one. I dont think Death Metal drummers are the best, that's just what I like but to say Neil could just sit down and plkay like Hoglan is laughable.

Try this kid on for size. Dylan Elise from the National Jazz festival in New Zeland from 1 year ago. He does some of the most amazing things I've seen in a while with his sticks. 1st part is with brushes but don't let that put you off. He kicks major ass starting around 5 minutes in. Around 8 minutes in he starts twirling tricks and technique that you'd associate with drum corps playing. Simply amazing and my choice for one of the best yet put up here.

I'll be honest with you. The drum set I bought back in 95 is a Signia kit which Rod Morganstien designed for Premier. Rock Maple with bearing edges set in from the head and nothing sticking inside of the air column (rim mount system). Only other kits like that back then were from from DW. It features a 22 x 18 bass drum. Also a 10 x 8, 13 x 12, 14 x 13 shell mounts and 16 x 16 floor tom. I use a Black Beauty snare for my main snare.

Back in the 70's everyone considered Neil P to be the best-and I agree he was damn good but drumming has evolved and Neil is now considered a primate. John Longstreth of Origin is a machine no doubt. Steve Asheim of Deicide is another really great drummer IMO Tim Yeung of Vital Remains and so many more. There are so many great drummers right now it is impossible to even make a list of top 10 or top 20. I have alot of respect for alot of different drummers with many different styles but I will say this:
*Lars Ulrich- the enegizer bunny has better chops
*Joey Jordison- super over rated
*Travis Barker-takes it in the ass
Sickdrummer.com has some of the best drummers from every genre around.
Meinlcymbals.com has alot of great drumming videos.
