I'm thinkin about a new exhaust. Magnaflow or Borla? Magnaflow is hella cheaper and I hear good things, has anyone had any experience with a Borla system? Which do you prefer?

i have mangaflow and love it. my buddy's lt1 z28 has borla and it pops
I love the popping sound because it kinda sounds like a GT car as its decelerating.
Can't go wrong either way, magnaflow is ok, but if u can afford the borla, I would go with them. You would be so much happier to hear the borla over the magnaflow but performance wise, it wouldnt make a huge difference.
I have a flowmaster 40 and it pops a lot. Its the only muffler ive heard in person on an LS1 that wasnt stock. It sounds okay. The popping is a little annoying though. I would love to have heard a few others before I chose but I havent even found anyone else up here with an LS1.
Magnaflow. :yup:
i think borla sounds better
borla....love the sound...
I know it isn't one of your choices but I have the Corsa and really like it. The price is up there with the Borla though.
Mufflex 4" :yup:
i love my magnaflow. after i get some more $ ii'm gonna get true dual magnaflow. it is nice and quiet for cruising but it opens up nicely. i also have a cutout for each header so i can be loud if i want:firedevil:
if you are willing to spend the money on borla, get gmmg, a lot of people think it is the BEST way to go:yup:
I can't justify $800+ on a catback.
Might as well get custom duals for that price.
Borla :)
Y2kPewterSS - we have the same exhaust, same year, and same color scheme going on...hope my T/A comes out as nice as your SS
Once i paint the mirrors and sail panel black we'll look even more similar
you can get em used all day on here and Tech for 400 shipped. thast what i paid and Borla is stainless and has a million mile warrenty:box:
personally for a CB i would go with the borla just look in the for sale section
here is a sound clip of a borla with stock internals on the left and just the CB, mine on the right has a cam and full exhaust(headers,Y pipe)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=uAJqkpAyF1U
man i wish i could get the chance to hear GMMG in person
What headers or Y pipe do you suggest using with borla??? what combination sounds the best with the borla exhaust?
does anybody know what kind of hp/torque gains gmmg can get over other expensive cb like borla?
I love my SLP Loudmouth 1
I have a Borla and LT pacesetters... I'm also thinking about nick naming my car the "Neck Bender" because everyone always looks my direction when I pass by.
I love the sound of Borla
i have borla adjustable with hooker LTs and ORY. i put an electric cutout in place of the plates so i can change how loud it is. love the sound. very mean sounding and loud with open plate.
Another vote for magnaflow, Much cheaper and i think it sounds just as good if not better
I just switched from the lm2 to the magnaflow and i couldn't believe the difference. very happy. i have pacesetter lts and ory btw.
I have put FlowMasters in all my trucks and a couple of cars that I've had..will never even think about trying anything else....by far for me the best sounding mufflers and performance bar none! Especially for GM vehicles!
NBT,
Sadly...flowmaster has a terrible reputation with the F-Body crowd.
Their cat-back is one of the worst flowing systems available for our cars.
First off I mean no disrespect with what I say.....I have to disagree with ya there....not sure how ya came up with that...If you can prove it to me I will believe ya but I have no problems with mine for my F-Body or my silverado2500 or my Ram1500..so your gonna have a hard time convincing me! :coffee: "Their cat-back is one of the worst flowing systems available for our cars" In essence what your saying is it would work better for say a mustang than an F-Body camaro? So I guess I'm an exception to the F-Body crowd....
NBT,
NBT<
I am obviously not going to be able to change your mind.....
But the proof is in the pudding. :dunno:
You shouldn't have a problem with any catback though. Most go with what they like for sound...so by all means, if you like flowmaster...stick with it. :yup:
Feel free to read up more on it. Towards the bottom of the page.

The flowchart says it all. They really don't flow as well as others. I've previously used my butt-dyno to assume they don't flow very well, now I can confirm it. :true:
What needs to be specified here is what series muffler for Flowmaster... The 80 series crossflow has been the one that is dogged for F-bods.
On the other hand the Super 40's have been Praised!
Always used 40 series as well.....not sure what series were included in those tests....40 works for me!
NBT,
My Borla sounds really nice at idle as well as WOT, it has no rasp either. I am getting Pacesetter LT's with a TSP Catted Y-Pipe along with a QTP Electric Cutout put on as we speak. It should sound great when it is complete.
I don't have any experience w/ Borla but I do have a magnaflow and it's really tame at idle but opens and gets loud under full throttle. Of course it's stainless as well and I paid $300 for mine used. Hard to beat that as far as I'm concerned.
