lol i just got it and im sooo stumped on what i got lol in the REar lol
its a a4 so what am i working wit here lol
aight thanks
nope nope nope. Not necessarily. I had an a4 v6 with stock 3.42s in the rear. look at your door codes and look for the one that says GU6 (it'll be GU something and if its 6 then you've got 342s) I don't remember the others. My old v6 had them and my SS has them too. I love it!
LS1 SS A4's came with 3.23 (GU5). Some Y_ _ (can't remember) V6 A4 cars came with G80 and 3.42's.
not all they've got 2.73,3.23,3.42 and it seems like one other version. most v6s had I think 3.23s but mine was a lucky one and I gave gts hell.
z28 a4's also can have a 273 gear... look at the code on your door...option code GU2 is 273's...option code GU5 is 323...option code GU6 is 342... thats the only way to be sure
Original poster has a LS1 SS A4 - 3.23 unless they've been changed.
A4 camaro SS has 3.23. Unless the gears have been changed.
I just checked my door codes and mine says GU6 and it a auto
yeah it has 3.23s. its not a v6. its not a z. its an ss.
well then why does my door code says GU6 and i know for a fact that when you special order a camaro you can get certain option like a Gm performance axle because my cusin ordered his camaro he had some options removed and put in because his a4 also has 3:42 gears as well and also he ordered it without first gear in his shifter so it says 2,D,Overdrive and he ordered it with traction control
with out traction control
all i know is GU6 is definitely 342s
why are you TRYING to get in an argument? you answered your own question btw, but i'll answer it again.
the SS is a per-for-mance package (the debate rages on) just like the ws6. have you ever heard of base model cars and optioned cars? some a4 z's came with 2.73s, some with 3.23s. i would think since the SS is at the top of its respective food chain it would get the choice gear ratios.... having said that, YES you could opt for different things IF you were the original purchaser. But i would say the majority of SS cars had the 3.23 rear.
please refrain from splitting hairs.....
I have heard from a few `96-`97 SS Owners that a 3.42 was optional in Auto equipped SS's and 3.73's were Optional in M6's These were SLP upgrades available to whom ever ordered their vehicle. Not sure if this translates to the LS1 cars or not but anything is possible.
ok so the advantages of having 323 over 342 and why???
you probably dont have the 3.42s. you'll accelerate faster with a higher number gear ratio. for instance....i have 3.42s in my 6 speed. i want 4.10s because it will increase the torque out put and i will accelerate faster, as in the revs will climb quicker.
the question you should be asking is.....
who has a 3200 stall and 3.73s for sale?
so if ss is a performance pack why would they go with 323 instead of the 342
here, check your door codes for one of the following and this will answer your question...
Door Code Breakdown:
GU1 : AXLE REAR, 2.41 RATIO
GU2 : AXLE REAR, 2.73 RATIO
GU4 : AXLE REAR, 3.08 RATIO
GU5 : AXLE REAR, 3.23 RATIO
GU6 : AXLE REAR, 3.42 RATIO
also, SGS is correct. for A4's, they came from the factory with 2.73's in the rear. however you could order the performance ratio which for an A4 was 3.23's. only M6 cars made it out of the factory with 3.42's. although, some M6 cars could be ordered with Auburn carrier and 3.73's...
however, i cannot confirm if the SS only A4's came factory with 3.23's. that's what the door codes are for...
here is the source from which i pulled the codes. wish you boys would do some internet search cause it takes a freakin long time to find this shit. so when i do, i bookmark the bastards...:D

STS99SS...nice SS :yup:
thx
No autos got 3:42s. No LS1 F bods got 3:73s or 4:10s. End of story.
