Do you guys tip? I stopped tipping when I ask for a bottle of beer. All they do is open the fridge, grab the beer and pop the top and hand it to me. That doesn't seem like doing anything. Am I cheap?

the waitress types i do cause they could get the wrong beer and then forget to get said beer. but thats just me. and oh yeah karma will get you eventually
I always tip at bars and clubs even if its just for a beer.
Then stay at home and do it yourself. When you're going out you're not just paying for the beer, you're paying for the service. My wife is a bartender. Generally, people tip a buck a drink for a beer like that, sometimes more, sometimes less, but that's pretty normal. You're not the only cheap ass out there that doesn't tip, but most do and it certainly won't make you any more popular to not tip. Then again, if tip enough that the waitstaff remember you, they'll have nice things to say about you should someone ask about you.
Don't be cheap!
You do not have to tip a buck, but 50 cents is good.
I toss a buck if it is busy and the bartender gets to me quick and gets my beer right.
Plus, if it is really busy, they will make sure you always have a cold one and no waiting.
They have to live and eat too.
LOL yeah, that's her...

depends on what im getting.....i usualy buy 2 drinks at a time...one for me one for a friend or the gf...buy rounds....when ordering mix drinks i tip 2 bucks when i order 2 beers only a buck..and if im a regular at this place usualy more
i'm a waiter.. and i hate people that dont tip.. u'll come to find that no one wants to serve you.. adn they dont care if they do a piss poor job.. it wont matter anyways ya know? so yes karma in a sense
It's not like I don't tip at all, I tip with any drinks they have to pour. It's not a waitress type thing where you put out an order and they go get it. It's a just a glass front fridge about a foot behind the bar, you point at it and they grab one and hand it to you. But they're just grabbing a bottle of beer out the fridge and handing it to me. I'd grab it out of the fridge if they let me reach over the bar. Upstairs, they sometimes got a cooler full of beers and you just give them a couple bucks and grab one, they don't even have a tip jar. What's a piss poor job of handing someone a beer? They drop it? The cashier at walmart does more service when they have to count out the cash. And it's not that kind of bar where people sit around the bar and talk.
shes really cute.
I have to point out the stark contrast to the family picture in the background, however, and hope it doesnt offend.
i will write it off to the fact that im stuck at home and drunker than usual.
and anyways, I forgot what I was going to say, but it had to do with the tips.
oh yes, ask her if a good tipper helps her to pour a stouter mixed adult beverage, if you dont mind.
gracias.
I always tip the bartender.
i never tip after rounds. When i pay my tab at the end of the night i tip at least 40% of my tab that way if you are a regular most bartenders will hook you up
i'll tip if i get a second beer. never on my first one; unless I get change back, then it's theirs {i hate carrying change}
i always tip, usually a $1/drink and i tip more as the night goes on usually
What I hate the most is when I'm at the club and the girl automaticly assumes she deserves a $1 tip. Thats why I like to have alot of $1 when I go cause if you hand them bitches a $5 or larger they usually keep a buck for themselves. I usually give them a $1 anyways but atleast let me give it to you not just take it.
If I'm at the bar it depends how much or how long i'm gonna be there sometimes I just stop in for like 30min to see some buddys and have a beer and I don't leave a tip. If i'm there for awhile watching a game I'll leave a tip.
I usually always tip a dollar but sometimes I don't want to. Place is charging $2.50-4.00 a beer when a case isn't any more than $17. It's a rip off. Someone is making some real money. I am not sure what bartenders make an hour but someone should be paying them nice. When the beer prices are low I tip more.
the nicer places are 5-8 a beer but I rarely go there on my own account. My work often takes us to happy hour at very nice places. I just hate spending a bunch of money on beer when I can have some friends over buy a case and food and spend less that 25. Everyone knows a night out drinking can well pass 100
The object of owning a business is usually to make money, not to entertain tightwads for free. And imagine what the insurance rates must be for a business that serves alcohol to people? Some of which leave the bar, kill people and then try to sue the bar for letting them get wasted?
If you don't wanna pay more than $2.00 for a beer, then stay at home. It's a pretty easy thing to figure out. The bartender doesn't get paid out of the mark up. They make an hourly which is figured into it over all, but they don't get 75 cents for every beer sold or some bs like that. The bar is there to make some money and therefore charges what people will pay to make as much profit as possible. Can you believe that restaurants actually charge more than food costs them so that they can make a profit? Can you believe it that even walmart charges more for their products than what they have to pay for it? Imagine... all for the terrible cause of making a profit?
I certainly hope you didn't create this post looking for people to agree with you or to justify your not tipping. Doesn't look like you're getting a lot of people supporting ya (yes, there are some that do).
Tipping isn't required, but if later on people start grabbing other peoples drinks before grabbing your drink, you'll have an idea of why. Servers and bartenders do remember that stuff.
Besides... in the whole scheme of things, is giving $1 extra really THAT big of a deal to you? Are you that hard up? If so, go back and reread the first paragraph.
How much to tip the cop after getting pulled over after a night of drinking?
:scare:
I always tip at my local drinking hole:naughty:
that beer they serve you costs more than going to the local store and getting a six pack.
theres this thing called operating business costs.
mortgage, insurance, light/phone/heat/water bills and paying staff.
wait, lets not forget taxes.
you need to look at teh overall picture. they are not making as much as you think.
bunch of cheap pricks on this board.
i tip well and bartenders always hook me up with free booze.
I ALWAYS tip. I waitressed for years so I know I'll get better service.
:yup:
I do understand that they are not just paying for the beer and glasses that there are operational taxes. That is fine and I always tip. I just mentioned I don't always like to if they (the bars are going to rape me) Lets say you get 400 people in a bar on weekend night, all customers having an average of 3 drinks with an average price of $5.00 a drink. Thats $6,000 a night plus if every one tips just $1.00 per beer thats $1200 in tips divided by say 4 bartenders that $300 a night per bartender plus hourly rate. That seems to be a lot of money for just turning around and grabbing a beer out of the fridge. God forbid we pay someone like teachers that make a significant contribution to the future and immediate success of our society. And the bar can make money and I realize that thats what they are there for but there is a cut off point cost.
You say don't bitch about the price of beer but its fine to bitch about the price of gas? I ask you whats the difference? You say you don't like the price of alcohol go home and drink or don't drink at all. I say you don't like the price of gas dont fucking drive. Take the bus. Sure its nice to go to a bar for the atmosphere and its nice to not have to rely on a bus or other means of transportation but let them charge what they want. They are out to make a profit. But I ask you who here hasn't honestly bitched about the gas prices.
I do stay at home a lot and if I go out I do tip well. I just stated I don't always like to if I feel like they are unjustly charging high prices.
I tip a buck for every beer.
i usually tip on the tab. but not on individual drinks. besides, the mark up is so fucking crazy. i spent $50 on a 12 pack the other night. WTF?? and they still charge a cover..
If you don't tip, don't expect service. When your in a busy bar, the ones who tip get served first, and I hate waiting for a beer.
100% Agreed on both quotes.
zbizkit broke it down in black and white about these places getting a profit. And sgt mentioned that you also are paying a cover sometimes, which would bring zbizkit's total UP.
Dont get me wrong, I tip..but well come back to that.
I understand the point of a markup. There has to be a profit, but $8 a beer? Thats possibly more than DOUBLE the cost for a beer at a regular bar. Yes, you hear it right, at a BAR.
For instance...
At the local Miller's Ale House, they charge $1.75 for a pint of miller lite (go figure) and $3.00 for a budweiser. In the SAME city, a local club charges $6.00 for either one. Not too much of a markup, but at these clubs the service is shittier, the bar is filthy, fights every 30 min, and...you paid to get in. Now this is nothing new at all, which is why some folks wont go to clubs. However, it still is ridiculous to charge that much. Shots or mixed drinks? Fucking forget about it.
As far as "paying for service," that shit could possibly be for the birds. Ive tipped OVER 100% before, but the only times I do, is when the bartender/server gives me FREE drinks. The way I look at it, is that these people just put their jobs on the line to make me drunk. THAT IS a service! Same goes for strong mixed drinks, but that does have it's downfalls...sometimes strong drinks taste horrible.
Oh yeah, I usually tip when I get the tab. I never really have cash and if I do, its for the cover.
If you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to go out- it is part of the deal- why screw the help because you have a bad attitude?
T I P used to mean "to insure promptness" Tells a lot, doesn't it? Yeah, flip them a couple bucks here and there, and your glass will never be empty- Or, maybe you like waitng for service while the bartender finishes that long joke down at the other end of the bar, with, you know, the tipping customers.
Port st. lucie is NO trendy spot.
Either way, point taken. I dont mind paying that much, but I can see how others would. The way I look at it is if I get pussy or not. After a series of failing attempts to get some ass and no hook ups at the bar, Id be a whole new breed of jerkoff if I kept going there.
just alittle advice from a guy whos been there done that.
when it comes to going out, do it to have fun with your friends.
now if you meet a broad or hook up with one for the nite, thats a plus.
if you have the mindset that you need to find something all the time, youll be one pissed off guy.
i still do the club scene
I dont go out for the sole purpose of getting laid, but agreed, it is a plus, and therefore makes the night a lot better AND convinces you that spending $100 on goldschlagger was worth it.
They're not performing a service. They just open the fridge and hand me a beer. I tip if I order a pitcher. I also tip my barber 30%. I've been doing it for a couple months now, never noticed any preference of other people over me. But I noticed out there almost nobody tips, the tip jars are almost always empty.
I always tip for decent service. I refuse to pay a cover if there is no band, I just find another place, but then I don't go out too much anymore. I don't get the cover deal, when you have to pay to enter a place to pay $5.00 for a beer ?
covers do suck.
luckily i hang out with police officers and we never pay because they flash a badge
