i was ready at 16 only because i had been driving tractors and truck since i was 10 at my farm, and thats the only reason, hell some people cant even drive at 18
sry to say but shit some of youngins cant drive for shit. kid helped me move some stuff. put his pos in park before he came to a stop. :wtf:
16. tells everybody hes gone be 17 in a couple of months. if u have to say that u shouldnt be driving. country folk learn to drive on the farm. most others never learn.
when i was a kid you could get a hardship at 14.....all the people i knew with them were people who's parents literally shitted cash.....back then a hardship was something like "mom works too and can't pick up the kid and the bus ride is WAY too long".....or the kid "works" too.....all "working" at some family business of course
man the good ol' days were a blast :woot2: :woot2: :woot2: :mel: :woot:
there should be better testing done... and fuckin old people need to retake thier test after the age of 60 and then again every 5 years... and if they fail they shouldn't have driving privilages till they pass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!
calm down, stay on topic
yes, i think that testing and permit times should be extended. especially with every kid getting a cell phone when they hit puberty and you know miss popularity needs to chat and drive at the same time...hell, keepin kids on the bus might humble enough of them too. I can't stand cocky teenagers
driving tests should be done on 6 lane roads. cuz thats where the stupid comes out.
or at night. "its so hard to see" then get the fuck off the road. ii can see just fine and ur in my fucken lane!!!!!!!!!!!
FUCK THAT
people should have to retake their licence when they're god damn 50.
It should be against the law to be on a cell and driving at the same time, and i can't believe it's not a law yet.
I'm gonna say the kids should have to be 18 to get their license.
90% of them are just plain fucking idiots. And i feel sorry for the teens who are responsible but it's still a 9 to 1 ratio.
I think it should be different in different areas. The population of the county I live in is like 3750,with no stop lights in the county, and every guy and half the girls in my class had farm permits at 14 which allow you drive to school and back or work and back, after we turned 16 our licenses changed over, we never had any serious problems either.
16 is fine new drivers need experience as the main skill so the earlier the better.
I do agree with re-testing the 'old drivers' aswell.
@dd how did you get your name in fancy green? Are you a new staff member here now?
at least 18, my sis got t-boned by a kid who just got his license he was runnin around with a bunch of other kids in the car. He blew a stop sign and slammed her doing about 45 in a 25. Totaled her brand new mustang, they had to get her out with the jaws of life, she was pretty messed up for a while. I also agree with older people having to retake their tests. There have been at least 3 incidents here in the last 5 yrs. of old people getting on the wrong side of the freeway and takin' people out. One guy hit a family head on and killed everyone including a couple of little kids. And cell phones.... ughh what a night mare, they don't pay attention and pull out in front of you, so you lay on your horn and they look at you like your some kind of asshole. WTF is this world coming too.:wtf:
now that i am over wanting to get my liscense being that i have had it. i truly think it should be 18. i got mine at 17 but speaking for the united states as a whole i really do think it should jus be 18.
15 or 16 is cool with me.
Now old folks...shit fire....after 65 they should have to take a driving test and an eye test to keep their liscense..RV's should be banned form the planet....
Old folks in muscle cars would be exempt.:wall:
Leave the driving age as-is. If so many teenagers are gettin in wrecks and killing people then how the fuck are they passing driving tests? If im a driving instructor and a kid cant drive, dont give 'em the god damn licsense. btw im pretty sure that most of the kids at my school are getting in wrecks also because theyre spoiled and inresponsible because their parents buy all of their cars and shit. None of them can appreciate something that their parents bought them. they think "hmmm I just wrapped my new car around a tree, oh well mommy and daddy will buy me another one tommorrow so its ok if I act like a jackass." If our country would stop passing people who can't drive and stop handing over cars to kids who are too lazy to get off their ass and get a job we would see a lot less shitty teenage drivers. Kids who buy their own cars are much more likely to care for it and be a responsible driver and those of you that assume all teenagers are shitty drivers can:blowme:
lets see I'm 17 and have owned a 500 hp Chevelle and now my T/A
No wrecks, no tickets, never pulled over, nothing (knock on wood)
Plus I work at a Tow Truck Co. we do 80% of the wrecks close to my town because our drivers are the fastest. Anyway I see far less 16-19 years wrecking and totalling their cars than I do 30-33 year olds.
Not tryin to be a prick just stating what I see
Plus there are lots of people older than me that have never driven a car that breaks loose at 50 mph (the chevelle) and would likely end up in a ditch far sooner than I would BTW I've never been close to ending up in a ditch
I say 18, I can't stand watching these 16 and 17 year old's with a car full flying down the road. I always get a car full of high schoolers in their riced out POS tailgating me in the Z-28 trying to get a race or whatever it is their attempting to do. I outta just pull the fuckers out and beat the hell out of them. Teenage girls on the cell phone while driving really makes me nervous too, about the same as my 24 year old wife.
In my opinion, as soon as a person can pass a thorough written test and thorough driving test they should be able to drive.
The problem as I see it is not age but judgement, and as I see it the pathetic drivers education and testing process we have in place today in woefully inadequate.
My wife, who is a car salesperson and has been driving 20 years cannot even parallel park.
I would encourage a process where a permit license could be earned by someone as young as 14 with the caveat that they could only drive with a parent or guardian until they are 16. This would provide the ability to have two years of experience behind a wheel prior to obtaining an actual license.
My suspicion is this extended "gestation period" would remove some of the hype and excitement about obtaining the license and provide enough time for the reality of risk to set in for those young people whose parents would choose to take advantage of it.
It is a fact that hearing, vision, reflexes, and learning ability are all greater when we are young.
Heck, people 70 years old can often get on a bicycle after not being on one for 20 years and still ride and this is because the skill was ingrained in their youth. Better drivers are more relaxed and knowledgeable that poor drivers. They also develop a better feel for the road, weather, and traffic conditions. These skills are easier to obtain when we are young than when we are old.
The worst drivers, in general, are those who learned later in life, like my Mom, who didn't drive until she was in her 30's...
The goal is better and safer drivers. People who grew up around farm equipemtn or whatever, like I did, as my Dad owned a construction company, are often more skilled than those who did not. I was driving trucks, bulldozers, bucket loaders, backhoes, and even cranes by the time I was 14 on a regular basis. I remember the winter of 1972 when my Dad made it my job to plow out the neighborhood driveways with a Michigan front end loader.
It may not have been legal, ut we lived in the country and I sure learned a lot about driving in crappy conditions in a large vehicle with no heater, ripped seats, and a metal steering wheeel with a hand scraper for a defroster and windshield wiper that didn't work...
I didn't have an accident on the roads until I was nearly out of college and then it was not my fault (as the town stopped sanding right at the town line and there was suddenly nothing but glare ice at night on a dirt road)...
:yup:
16 years old.
They are gonna be a little reckless right when they get their license regardless of age. Unless we bump it to 25 years old or something rediculous.
18 should be the age for everything. Voting, Drinking, Driving, and Selective Service. I've never understood why we have 16, 18, and 21 as these milestones.
I do think that an age between 18-21m in my opinion 19, should be adult age. Getting married, military, dependancy, voting, drinking, and whatever should all happen at that age. i select 19 because the majority of young people are out of high school at that age and colleges can more cost efficiently isolate incoming freshmen from the rest of the college population (most do already).
However, other things like driving, are a basic skill. If a young person can get a summer job they should be able to drive. However I think anhy kid, regardless of age, should be required to take a written and riding test before putting a bicycle on a public road. I mean WTF... Bike riders are required to follow all traffic laws in just about every state yet are not required to have any concept of competency?
I also think a mandatory driver re-test every four years, no matter how foolish it may seem or how inconvenient, would save lives and reduce accidents. if we raised the penalties even further for drinking and driving that problem would go away as well.
Somehow I have some to think that we really don't want to improve things sometimes. We just like to bitch about them.
72 years old
I've always kinda thought of it as something to look forward to, can't wait till 16 to drive, then 18 to be free,or buy tobacco for those who chose, and the big one 21 to drink legally, been waitin for that one for a coupla years can't always wait though. Oh and a good rule to live by f-bods don't run on alcohol, just thought I would throw that out there.
Definately 18. I think that kids should be able to get a learner's permit at 14 though. 4 years of driving with an adult would be a good thing. Also, it would prevent carloads of high schoolers driving around and not paying attention to what they are doing.
I honestly believe, that it does not matter what age you begin driving. IMO there no difference between a 16 yr old first time driver and a 21 yr old first time driver. If you are a begginner, you are still going to experiment and do stupid shit you shouldnt do no matter what. However, I think that the difficulty of Drivers License exams should be raised, that way they can keep the idiots that cant drive off the road.
i got my learners permit when i was 14... you can drive with anyone over 18 in the car (who has a DL)
that way by the time i was 16 i was a very confident driver and was able to handle myself. i agree with SexyAssFormula though... a beginner driver will do stupid shit no matter what the age. at 16 i was a good driver but looking back i did some real dumb stuff. i havent got a single ticket since i turned 17 (knock on wood) but even friends who didnt get their DL's til they were 17 or 18 still did dumb shit when they were beginners.
i think the driving age should be 18 though... now that i am in the clear
ok Driving test...a 16 yo will pay attention or else he wont get his DL, but as soon as he is out in mommy and daddies car with no supervision with a car full of retards and there all talking on cell phones....no im 19 and i think the driving age should be higher...or at least you should have to take an I Q test...
im only 18 but i think it should be 18 because all the cocky little 16 y/o thinkin there Michael Schumacher runnin around in there little honda, i started drivin with my dad when i was 14 but i was already used to having a car with power (94 impala first car). and i agree with SSee ya that you apperciate your car more if you have a job, i pay for my car and baby the shit out of it
18 for men 30 for women.
I got my permit when I was 14. You had to drive with a licensed adult over the age of 25. I drove everywhere for 2 years before getting my license (with parental supervision of course). By the time I got my license I was an incredibly confident driver. Confidence in your ability behind the wheel isvery important for a first time driver.
That's just scary...
I think you should get a Drivers licenses , like you get a bike licenses in Japan. You start of with a small CID car then move up. That way if you get pulled over and you have a card for a 4 banger and you are in a Vette , you get you licenses pulled ...
most wrecks happen in 4 or 6 cylinder cars. so that doesnt stop the problem. i think it should be legal to hold somebody acountable for there driving actions. so if somebody cuts u off, or runs a stopsign u get to show them what it would feel like to do it infront of an 18 wheeler. im ranting bout bitch that ran stop sign and pulled out infront of my chopper. quad cab dodge vs chopper. bad fucken day.
I think some of these states let a 14 yr old drive because that's the age of consent there:lol: Who wants a jr.high kid behind the wheel...at least in CA the age is 15 1/2 for a permit.
I also agree with the japan thing....I also think first year drivers should have to have some sort of sticker on their car like they do in japan.
thats a good idea ..Lke a rookie stripe ...... I think also the actual driveing test should be harder .. If any of my military buddies ever tried to get a on base motorcycle pass knows ...its tough ..But just to go in , take a written test , drive a couple blocks and pass ..There should be a class about a week long with lots of driveing test and practice ...
Farm boys know how to drive:drivin: I've drove power wheels, tractors, trucks, atv's, motorcycles. I can back up trailers which most kids cant do when the first start driving.
its more like its not me that i worry about, theres too many other dumbshits driving.
that's b.s. not all women are bad drivers, they have better reaction time, if they can stay off the cell phones. I happen to be a great driver, never had an accident. I've also been driving since I was 12 and had to haul a 40 ft. trailer around full of hay and back it up to be unloaded. I think it all ads up to skill and experience.
please dont talk about hay on here, i cringe everytime that word is mentioned, yes i do over 5,000 bails a year on my farm and i hate every second of it
i think sometimes its not so much young kids that are super dangerous drivers as it is women 30 to 50 on the phone and seniors.
This generation is definatly not motivated. I have 15 yr olds on my block that are learning how to drive and really are not interested in working to get there own car or driving for that matter. Hell when I was 18, it was like you gained some freedom from your parents that you never had before.
teenagers do not have the drive or most are not mature enough to handle driving now-a-days. I feel that 18 would be better for young drivers since there is a little more maturity/responsable at that age. The delima is that at 15 you can start to work and would possibly need to drive to your job. Hence this is the problem if you where to change the age to 18.
i say whenever the driver can show he/she can control a car untill then no license
I like your idea better. Also, all drivers over the age of 60 should have to take a driving test every 4 years. I am tired of getting behind grandpa and doing 25 mph in a 45 mph zone. The worst is when two older drivers are drag racing (in both the right and left doing 30 mph).
yea and the cell phone talking drives me nuts(especially women) yea i think the every 4 years thing is a great idea just to keep people fresh, hell i dont think that i have ever parrell parked in my life.
I vote 18 for "road-ready" reasons. But I think you shoould be able to start working etc at 15 or 16 and a car is almost mandatory for that.
If they can talk they can drive.
