Hi I need an opinion. I'm 16 years old and really don't have the money for a ls1 trans am which is why I am considering doing a front clip swap on my 96 firebird. There is a v6 firebird (99) for sale on craigslist for 700$ in pretty good shape. If I bought that car would I be able to put my old front end on that car so I could resell it? I would assume yes considering that clip will fit mine but I just want to be sure considering I'm still learning a lot about these cars.

Is this FB a wreck car, a roller (missing the engine and drive train) or is your 96 messed up?
Most ppl will swap early 4th gens to the later 4th gen front clips. Better looks.
But to answer your question yes you can swap over them over. Fenders, lights, hood.
Now regarding future plans.
Finding a LS1/6 blocks are getting difficult. You also have a ton of better options.
When you're ready look for 5.3 or 6.0 (better) blocks. Look for yrs that have 24x reluctor wheel. You can tell by the crank sensor, black = 24x, gray = 58x.
Getting a 58x is not too bad, just means a little more costs and parts to make it work. If you can score the ecm and wire harness with the engine even better.
You'll also need a LS1 k-member. Used ones go for $350-450. It may be better to just upgrade to a UMI K member for $500.
Transmission - depends on what you have.
If you start piecemeal it together before you know it you'll have what you want. Most car builds take 3-5 yrs. I'm on yr 5 since I started modding. Hell I'm on engine 3 and transmission 2 coming up on 3 yrs now.
If memory serves, the truck blocks have a bigger manifold that wont clear an F-body hood, so a car manifold would be on the list too, that and brackets for the accessories?Quote:

It's actually a full running v6 firebird lol their selling it really cheap for some reason (will post a link to ad here: https://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/5192826704.html). And my car is a v8 (lt1) 6 speed and I really just don't have the money to spend on a trans am (plus I can't find any straight drives around). Also would it be a better investment to just build up my lt or should I try to get an ls1?(I know a man who has one with 102,365 miles on it for 1700$) I honestly don't know much about working on cars yet since my dad is always so busy with his work he never really has time to help me out much so I don't wanna go in too deep just yet but I still want to give my car the power to make the rich kids who called it a p.o.s. Cry when I blow their doors off 😈. And thanks for taking time to help out!

Regarding the TA I have to see it to say it's a good deal. $1700 for a running TA that has 100k miles is way to low. What is wrong with it?

It took me till I was in my mid 30's till I could get back into F-bodies. I had a 96FB for a few yrs prior to my 98 Trans Am.
So back to your issue. The only really bad issue with LT1's are the opti-spark. In fact it's the #1 issue. If you don't know why, here's why. GM put it under the water pump. So every time the water pump leaks or the opti gets wet from road spray opti goes out. I had a friend do the LS1 swap just because he was tried of changing the opti every 4-5 months. There is a fix but it's costly and time consuming. It's called the 24x conversion. Basically you get rid of the opti and convert it over to coil packs like the LS1. I've seen some bad ass 383 Stroker LT1's so if more pwr you want that's a route.
Now there is a bigger after market for LS motors over the LT's (Not the current Gen 5 LT's). So finding parts for LS are easy. Like I posted above You can either find a donor car like you did to get the parts you need and sell off the rest or find a good base car and go for there.
Don't get hung up on WS6, CETA or Firehawk cars. You can clone them. Mine was a base model TA and everything that made those cars special I've upgraded and made better. If you look at my signature you'll see all the mods I've done over the last 6 yrs. If you take little chips at the end goal you'll get there.

If you feel the LS1 car is a good deal I would go for it. Hell keep this one to drive around while you work on the LS1. That would be my recommendation.
The 24x conversion was just a suggestion/an option. It's also a big investment. I would only recommend doing it if you are just absolutely in love with the LT1 motor. With a LSx motor you have much more power and options that are far more worth the money.
My vote is for the LS1 motor all the way! Tons of power stock. Easy to upgrade and a better starting point then the LT1. As everyone has said, take your time, do your research, and learn from others mistakes so you don't have to make those mistakes. Im speaking for myself and probably most others on this site when I say that we didn't have a bada$$ ride when we were 16-18years old. You already have a cooler car then what I had when I was 16. Ever hear of a 1974 Plymouth Valiant? Probably not. That was my 1st set of wheels. 4 doors also! Enough rust on it, that it almost looked like it was a add on factory option. LOL
@ 16-18 My car was the old families 1983 Chevy Malibu Station Wagon.

If it's speed and power you should also look into turbo's with the 6cyl. There are plenty of videos on youtube of 9s turbo V6 f bodies.
One thing you're going to learn is going fast cost money. How fast you want to go, depends on how much money you can spend.

Have fun with it whatever you do, but please respect the word "power". A lot of people cannot properly handle standard LS1 power let alone a built car above and beyond that power lol.
Not trying to discourage having a fast car at all...but only to remind you its a totally different animal when you start getting to certain power levels. Even more-so when the car hasn't been built properly (suspension, drive-train, etc.)
^^ This is especially true on wet roads, colder days, and in any kind of inclement weather.
