02 SS vs 97 Cobra Procharged

Well I was getting gas and I looked over and seen this Cobra sitting there with "Supercharged" on the side and I was like "Bullshit." So after I pumped my gas I sat there and waited for the owner to come out and once he got in a cranked her up...a heard a little whining at idle. So I though "Yeah here we go this is what I've been looking for." I drive over and talk to him and he said its ATI Procharged and it dyno'd 422rwhp/438rwtq. "Hell yeah, let's run'em."

We pull out onto the highway and line up and go from a dig. Both of us spun really bad, all of 1st, half of second for me. So he pulls about a car from me at 60 or so and when I got into third I started pulling on him, as I go by him, I can hear the supercharger sucking the shit out of air and I got my back fender to the front of his car at 150 and by the time I got to 170 I had about 2 cars on him.

Best race I have EVER had by another street car and man it was a blast! After the race he came up to me with both thumbs up and a smile from ear to ear and said "Man that's one badass Camaro you got there! I've never seen one run like that!"

Nice kill, what are your mods?

Nice run.. Now remember you can never show your plates online now..

Those numbers sounds pretty weak for a Procharged Cobra no? I know 97 came with only 305HP, but still.

how did you get your speed of 170??? do you have a 200mph speedo and recalibration done???

+1 I was thinking the same thing.

Someones got some explaining to do on the stated mph and it better be good.

Imma callin BS on the MPH.

Not sayin you didn't win, OP, just highly doubting the speeds you're sayin.

110-120 is way more believable.

Nice kill.

I could be wrong but the 97 cobras came with 270hp or so.
Ford advertised 305hp when it wasn't true.

Nice race. But I also think the mph was a little to high :)
Idk your mods.

This. You mean our cars don't go 170, lol. Speed is a bit far fetched op

I will leave the speedo part alone....

So from a dig he got a few lengths and by the end you had him by 2.. Are you stock or close it?

Speed is GPS verified. Thats right as I go into 6th.

Mods: Heads, Cam, lid, TB, MAF, bigger injectors, long tube headers, 3in borla catback no cats, 150 shot nitrous, 160 thermo, stage 3 clutch. Aggressive tune.

170 isn't hard to do in our cars...I guess depends on where you live? I live in flat farmland in Arkansas that has nothing but straight roads.

nice kill. what kinda hp you puttin down?

It dyno'd 415rwhp/432rwtq BEFORE the 150 shot. But the spray wasn't used in the race.

Nice;)
Good number and good mods.
What cam are you running?

I guess I can understand spinning on the start. But with the mods you have I am stunned he was ever ahead of you.

Could be, I don't know what the 97 Cobra was actually rated at, but I thought it was 305HP at the crank, so it would seem the car would be in the 7psi range. I guess that sounds right now that I think about it.

probably the 8psi kit with the intercooler.

I'm finding 170 hard as hell to believe OP, but not impossible.
Over on LS1Tech, we have a guy running 500rwhp (not counting his 150 spray) he found 180 in the mile. He can be quoted as saying "165 is hard as hell to get past without a lot of push due to the drag coefficient of our cars".
Another 98 WS6 owner running 487rwhp, 476 torque pretty much has it limited to 165 bouncing off the limiter in 5th, because once he shifts into 6th it actually slows down.
I've personally never had mine going that fast, nor tried past 150 so I really have no idea.
As for the Cobra...GREAT kill. It's always nice to run against a S/C model being NA and win, the only trouble is making the guy believe you never hit the juice to accomplish the victory.

Well I read about a guy posting his GPS mph around 180 and he had a cam and bolt-ons, dunno if it was an a4 or m6.

I've read and heard the same exact thing about being able to achieve certain speeds. It takes a shit-ton of power...

My buddy's cousin had a black '97 cobra with all the bolt ons and a kenne bell @ 8psi and 4.10s. I beleive he had a 255 tire, not sure. All I know is he could drive!!! On street tires, he was able to keep it right on the brink of traction in first, and lay down double patches going into second and third. His best friend had a '98 or '99 silver Z28 that was an automatic with full exhaust/lid/3.73s/smooth bellows, full bolt-ons with no cam, but a good dyno tune. He never would say what he dynoed.

I was with them on two different occassions. From a dig, the cobra would jump out with not much room between them, until the top of his second, or atleast into third, when the camaro would start rolling by him. Mid 4th, it was always game over by no more than 2 cars. That LS1 was nice, but the guy was a little arroant and cocky about his typical bolt-on camaro:yawn:

Yawn, boring speed. 170 has to be on,or right after the mike mark. That's a hell of a drag race. Maybe,it FELT like 170.

umm yeah, gonna call bullshit on all of that. Where to start.

4.10s with a kenne bell?? really...
255s and he can 'brink of traction' in first with over 450 torque and 4.10s?really...
and then a 425hp+ car more modified against a car that would maybe put down 350rwhp Max....really....

yeah bullshit. If he lost, the cobra is broken.

Raise the BS flag on yourself squid...

Let's start at the beginning. Air... Fuel... Spark... goes KABOOM! And you make...?...?.... POWER!

This 4.6L DOHC Cobra makes a pretty over-rated 305HP in stock form. I beleive in one of my old MM&FF magazines, when the '01 came out, they compared dyno numbers to that of the '99 and also a '96. I know for a fact that the '96 put down somewhere in the neighborhood of 235-240 to the brakes. Yes, amazing, I know! Very comparable to that of a stock LS1 that may put down 280-290:thumbup:

Then you do the typical intake/exhaust/gears, put some rubber under it, and throw a kenne belle on it. I don't remember mentioning any fuel upgrades, as he never spoke of any, but it would be stupid not to upgrade the system, the kit may have even come with it all, who knows. But in any event, you are NOT going to see anything near 425hp in one of these. 400RWHP isn't even attainable. With 8lbs of boost, you are realistically looking at 330-350 to the brakes. Max. I rode in the car years ago, I know what it felt like. And let's not forget the ole' rule of thumb. There's no replacement for displacement. 40-50% increase with that KB is what they advertise.

I'm not going to threadjack here. I believe you probably need to sit back and think about the numbers before you start spatting off at the mouth. With 3.23s and a baby-ass stall, I can lay into my right pedal on bald 245s and still cut better 60' times than the guy with slicks and 3.90s in the other lane. Anything can happen. Not everybody knows how to launch and/or drive. It's life:rolleyes:

Last one was a 2.19 in the pewter car, but that's with 2.73s and shitty track prep

Besides, I've got the DRs on the 2.73 car and the bald 245s on the 3.23 car. No times yet, so as stated above, I can still own the local supercharged 4.6s running around with Hoosier slicks:D

Hey, not my fault they can't drive. I need to get it on video one night. Pretty bad a few months back my buddy and I asked why they hate camaros so much. Never heard it get so silent before... guy with a blown silver stang said "Because they're fast... you guys have a racecar from the factory... they're just shitboxes in every other aspect". Whatever:shrug:

2.19 is a good 60' I know you said bald tires and all.. Still 2.19??? Maybe I am lost and don't understand.. Maybe my reading 101 sucks..

3.23's,baby stall and bald 245's and you can out 60', slicks and 3.90's ? And your current 60' is 2.19?? So the 3.23's do not have a 60' time yet?

No man, My 2.19 60' time was on my pewter car. Equipped with 2.73s.
My current setup on both would be the 275/40/17 MT ETs on the pewter car, and the 245/50/16 Fuzion street tires on the white car (3.23s). No times for either yet.

So you can't say whether or not you can beat the guy in the next lane with slicks and 3.90 gears quite yet :)

Just because I don't have times yet on my car, this means I haven't raced it? I don't understand what's so hard to understand about what I've posted...

Yes, I've beaten the individual in question...

I am. I was thinking about you lining up to someone at the track and making this statement.

Then I remembered you are talking about some guy who doesn't know how to drive his car that I could beat out of the gate with my mountain bike

Thats not bad considering those gears...I bet your anxiouxly waiting just like i am haha I hate the winter now that i have this toy to mess around with. Not to mention i had a good run for a basically stock car Last run of the year did 12.86 with a 1.89 60 ft time on street tires.

You could... really...

Sorry for the thread-jack, but my original statement was to point out, that if you're comparing two cars, that measure up in every important statistic, to be equally compared in terms of power, weight, gearing, and traction, if one bits before the other, it's usually game over. Didn't mean to go off topic here and argue about somebody not being able to drive. My apologies:)

I am sure he can hit 170 no problem. My 94 I did 155 in and I had only done exhaust, I assumed it would have some sort of governor, but it didn't.
