super pissed,sfc's poor fit

So I have a brand new set of J&M subframe connectors(site sponser when I bought them)I finally went to get them installed today and the fit was terrible in the rear so much so they couldn't be installed without some fabrication.dammit!! So who makes sfc that fit,I mean really fit? Bad enought thay want $80 bucks to install,now who knows how much it will cost to make them fit,they fit great on the front subframe but at the rear subframe the was at least a 4mm gap.and yeah I had the correct side.

Are you putting them on with the suspension under load?

I have UMI and they fit great

Think I'm gonna order some umi.
Yes,car was on a drive on lift at a muffler/performance shop,the guy and I both held them in place under the car.

Pretty dang sure, UMI is a sponsor here or was.

I have had these sitting in my house for a while,today was the first opportunity I have had to get them installed,I think umi is a sponser now,but they weren't at the time I bought these j&m sfc.

yes, UMI is a sponsor and paid to have the right to advertise here instead of trying to sneak it in like lesser companies.


I have UMI's and they fit fine. Did you contact J&M to ask them about it? I might've even taken pictures. They would most likely make it right with you.

UMI is a great fit and they back there product with pride.

They are also made of high quality material and made in the USA.

nothing major,car was hit in a parking lot that caused a dent in the right qtr panel.definately a part quality issue with these sfc's

umi's are still on sale at kentucky speed 15% off and free shipping if you order today.

i'll take 50 bucks plus shipping. they are black in color.j&m wants $122.50 plus $15 to powdercoat them black. you can see them on hotpart.com. i will stress they do not fit well on the rear subframe area and will require some fabrication to make them work!

how hard was it hit and how were the sfc's off? Vertically or horizontally? I'm sure it's a part issue but I wouldn't just write off a hit to the rear...doesn't take much at all to tweak a unibody a little bit and 4mm isn't very much.

it was hit by a chevy 1500 in front of the right rear tire just hard enough to dent the panel.guy was backing up at a ultra low speed and didn't see a bright yellow car.very mionr and absolutely did not effect the unibody.sfc's have a gap at the rear on both sides.i really should have taken some pics when it was on the lift.might try to get some pics tomorrow at the house with the car on the ground

How many passe are on the car?

Buddy bought a 2000 SS new but didn't do SFC's til about 50K miles. By that time it was a H/C/I + spray 11 second car. It needed a 1/4" thick spacer on the right rear to fit. These were the type that didn't go all the way back the the LCA front mounting point.

These cars are pretty much a Twist-O-flex design under pressure.

1 pass at a dragstrip on radial tires,no slicks or drag radials have ever been on this car and it is rarely driven hard.it is my wife's car since new and she keeps her seat back just far enough so she can't press the accelerator to full throttle,kinda crazy but she slug a rod in her v6 firebird way back when and she is scared to drive the ceta hard too often and t-tops do not leak at any high pressure car wash i have been to.

i would like to,but that's not in the budget till feb.checked out umi's website and i noticed their tubular sfc bolts on at the lca mount,i think it would be a good time to do the lca and panhard rod also,damn this is gonna cost some $$$$. LOL

UMI is what I have, bolt-in 2 point SFC's. Fit's perfect. And I would install them at the control arm first before you bolt it under the body in the front.

I am sorry to hear about your bad luck. Get you some that will fit better and you will feel better about. Lets try to keep this thread a technical thread though, why don't you start a thread in the classifieds if you are going to sell them. It will get better traffic in there for a potential sale too. Good luck with your next purchase :)

I have all UMI and Spohn suspension parts and both companies make.a great product. I would go UMI since their prices are better.

My UMI torque arm relocation crossmember fit like poop. I had to enlarge every mounting hole on that thing to get it to fit. Didn't get any help from them other than them assuring me I did something wrong.

That surprises me. Mine fit perfect and took about an hour to install once the car was in the air.

Sphons in mine,,,fit great,,,I have other Sphon devices in my ride too and all of them fit and perfrom great.

Let us know how the next set fit. First thought I had was something in the unibody got tweeked, but bad parts do get out from time to time.

Like many others have said UMI SFCs work great!

Can you post pics of where they are off by 4mm?

I have BMR boxed SFCs and they fit excellent, but I wish that they sat closer to the pinch weld, so they could be welded at that point as well.
