in another website I read that some 01-02 fbodies came with a ls6 block from factory. has anyone else heard this before or even confirm this? they say the difference you can tell is the ls6 block is duller in color than the ls1 block.

Some did come with the LS6 block but it had LS1 internals. You can tell by the number stamped on the block. The color part is just talk..
It is legit.
10% (roughly) from 2001 had the LS6 block.
25% (roughly) from 2002 had it.
Doesn't really matter that much...unless you plan on modding like freaking nuts.
I forgot to ask too what number is for what block?
if i remember correctly the LS1 blocks have a bullseye by the coolant crossover tubes and the LS6s do not
Easiest way to tell as far as i'm concerned
it is most certainly true, ls1 and ls6 blocks were cast in different plants (IIRC, one in the States/Canada and one in Mexico) this resulted in a noticeably different cast.
edit: here is a pic and a website resource:

LS6 on the left and LS1 on the right. note the significant color difference.

Does anyone listen?
Does your block have this little bullseye on it? i think there are like 4 on the front
Hard to see but only pic i got that shows it

the ls6 has more cooling ports to correct.
At least one person listened lol
easiest way to tell
the bulls eye was how i was able to tell as well i tried the whole telescoping mirror but after about 20 minutes i said f**k that
so does the ls6 not have the bullseye at all?
nope nobody said anything about the bulls eye when i first asked this question so when they did tell me i was like WTF why didnt anyone tell me that before
Just read this and I'm going outside at almost 1 am to check if I have a LS6 block.... Thanks tater!!
LS6 block here! :yay:
Not to piss on anyones parade, but this has been brought up many times. It is basically the most irrelevant thing ever. I think everyone here is just interested as a basic fyi which is great. I just hope that no one ever really gives a shit about this because its not important. The only semi noteable difference is slightly better oiling. Thats it, LS6 isn't stronger in any respectable way. If you're serious about building up these motors that isn't going to be a determining factor in any way.
I've never heard that the LS6 has better cooling then the LS1. Since you never hear anyone having cooling problems with an LS1 that can be resolved with an LS6 block, again I would say this is irrelevant.
Doesnt make a difference in performance that is true, but there is nothing wrong with being a little curious about what block you have. Just another little fact you can learn your car
From everything I have read, my best recollection is that the LS6 block's primary difference is additional windage between the internal cavities.
