The plan for my z28

i love racing/ going fast i blew my motor up racing it had port and polished heads high flow fuel rails long tube headers no cats slp loud mouth slp air box ect, i have decided to build a street and strip camaro with my 2000 m6 z28. My plans are for the motor lsx 454, sts turbo kit ( 10psi ) 2 stage 250 shot with 700r4 transwith 2500 stall mind u it will have some regular street driving , i wanting to hit 1ooohp mark. if u now of a better set-up that would be great for what im wanting please feel free to comment. i did order the motor thurs, i will soon upload pics on the progress and when done dyno sheets.:woot2:

Yes the STS is the rear mount. I also have to ask the question why? Why not a procharger or vortech set up?

Let me add: Why a 700R4? Do you know what a 4L60E is?

And 2500 stall is almost stock...

With that kind of HP goal, forget about the overdrive trannies. You aren't going to need much rearend gear with a power adder making 1,000 HP.

I'd do a 9 inch with that and about a 3.25 to 3.50 gear along with a 400 turbo tranny. Transmission will take the abuse and the 2.48 first gear along with that rear gear won't hit the tires so hard. Plus it would be easily streetable, no need for an overdrive.

so much better set ups than sts. rear mounts work well but sts is like a cheap universal style kit. lots of little cheap components that should be so much better quality for the price. the 454 will be nasty strong by itself but is everything that you want strictly just numbers, not the ability to use the power? lots of cars have the power but cant really utilize it(traction). front mount turbo(s) is what i would personally use, because i dont like the thought of the turbo(s) being exposed under the car along with oil lines running to and from the turbo(s).

personally with the lsx 454 i would get that sucker forged up(very pricey) with a boost cam and boost heads. after that find a reputable shop(the hard part) that can do a solid front mount turbo set up(single or twin) right the first time. you will need a proper fuel set up for the moter alone and with boost will need to be top of the line. 4l60e properly built can handle the power, lots of people like the extra durability of the 4l80e trannies though too. but a proper wiring harness will be needed for the motor and the 4l80e. a stall and tranny cooler is a must. not sure what kind of stall would be needed for a boosted setup. A SOLID TUNE CANNOT BE STRESSED ENOUGH WITH A FULL CUSTOM SETUP. your cars ability to be a strong and smooth running car will depend on the tune. after that a full suspension setup from front to back(a lot of this can be done pretty easily with anyone with mild mechanical knowledge). forged 454 with a set of twins should hit the 1k flywheel hp mark with little problems. if you want 1k to the wheels some spray might be needed if you arent comfortable with turning up the boost. but if your feeling froggy just up the boost. that is why the motor is forged after all. quality parts is what you will be looking for as far as the internals. the suspension is completely optional if you only want to just have the number for bragging purposes. but after suspension and slicks/skinnies this combo could easily be low 10s on a bad day without weight reduction. easily single digits when you learn to drive it without weight reduction. adjustable suspension will allow the car to be switched from drag setup to street to autocross fairly quick.

I have a friend with a 2000 Z28 running a forged 347 and a really big snail. He's running a TH400 and 4.10 gears in a 12 bolt. While his car is teched for 10.00 he did a glory run towards the end of the night and got booted from the track. Glory run was 9.47 @ 143mph...

Holy sheeoot! what a car

Vid #3 after the run shows him and some friends at a private airstrip having fun.

The "Medium Boost Dyno vid" (video #6 after the run) shows 810rwhp/810rwt... Stout for sure.

And in the race vid he launches off of a trans brake (that's why his hand moves from the brake button to the shifter after he launches).

FWIW: I posted this vid for the OP to show that you don't need big cubes and twins - just a well thought out combo and a well prepped car.

Not trying to thread jack. But is the 10 bolt in the LT1's different from the LS1's?

MY LS1 (A4) 10 Bolt, snapped on pretty much just headers and a shit kit.

The LT1 (M6) stayed solid with 383/LT4 Cam. With no rear end work, no SFC's.

To me that makes no since why, only a year appart (both 4th gens).

But I know for sure on any LS1 first thing first would be to make the rear more solid before going into the power adders... Turbo would be nice, only if its not STS. The fact it has to travel the distance of the car is not efficent, also the fact the turbos hang under the car scares me they may get ripped off.

everyday street driving the 2500 stall i thought it would be great, should i go with a 3200 stall or what would u go stall wise if it was your build, sts, i was really wanting to try something differ other than the supercharger or font mounted turbo system. i love the way it sounds and have seen some decent setups i was just thinking out of the box ( what pistons and rods was he useing compression ratio . As i said before what would u go with, and the lsx i bought does have forged internals but im taking the heads to get port and polished. I would like to have a badass build so if it was your build how would u go about it. or what parts/ products would u use. thanks, oh and the 700r4 was a friends choice with me doing daily driving i do have 373 rear end.

i would def get a fabricated plate to go in the rear for protection if i do sts.

FWIW, the 4L60E is an electronic (i.e., controlled by the PCM) version of the 700R4. Any stall you use will be a "lock-up" style, i.e., at a preprogrammed mph the stall will lock up and act like a regular torque converter. This how I get away with a 3400 stall and still get 24+ mpg on the hiway.

IMHO, you're friend is giving you bad advice. If you are indeed building a strong combo there are electronicly controlled tranny's out there that will work for you.

If you have an automatic tranny and it's a 4L60E and you are going with the larger cid engine you speak of then yes, you'll want to upgrade. But not to a 700R4. Maybe you can beef the tranny you have or go with a 4L65E or a 4L80E.

And if it's that bad ass nothing short of a built TH400 will work...

the lsx 454 from gm comes with 700hp not that ill be getting that to the rear i cant c that happening but with a 2 stage 250 shot and which ever forced induction system i go with i will have high numbers, wanting the best option for durability and performance. but i will do my homework, big thanks

i am getting it repainted it is mystic teal but im going with a green in th paint and a blue pearl in the clear, blacking everything out ( wheels, taillights, headlights, ect.) i hope to have it done by Nov.

i understand the rear mount for originality, but dont count on sts. do a custom set up. sts is very generic and with what they supply can usually pretty cheap in the places you dont wanna go cheap. not to mention that it is a hot turbo set up. with what you will spend after buying the sts and buying all pieces that need to be upgraded, to the front mount intercooler, you will have spent enough what you need to buy 2 sts kits just to get the most out the kit power wise and reliability wise. some have luck on their side and the sts goes together ok and make nice power but the few who do rarely get past 5 lbs of boost.

i dont see too many prochargers go more than 30,000 MI on a DD
i am sure plenty of people have had no problems. but while i was working at a chevy dealer i saw numerous chevy trucks/camaros/vettes that had prochargers installed by us and were back within 35,000MI with valve problems broken connecting rods. BUT i have never seen a totally built 454 LSX block with a procharger. lol maybe its tough enough to handle it? i agree build up a rock solid 4l60E or TH400

from the factory there isnt an ls(x) motor that is built for fi other than the ls9 and lsa. all other ls series that are factory installed are too high compression with plain cast metal materials. where as a built 454 to me for a boost set up would obviously be forged metals with lower compression with custom pistons for spray also. yea you can still install a sc or tc setup on anything but if it runs well is another story. for example a factory ls1 will not normally hold up to well past 8 psi of boost. whether it is tc or sc.

the lsx 454 that i have purchased isnt factory its a crate motor with forged internals 16k worth of motor 700hp

that i know but he was talking about vehicles that have hit 30k miles with sc setups that go to dealerships for work to be done on said vehicles. even though the sc setups are installed by the dealer that tmaxicana works at, he hasnt stated whether the motors were built for boost or not. so im assuming they are factory high compression motors that would be lucky to hit 30k miles with most of those miles being boosted.
