Seriously, is it unmanly to like much adult contemporary music? I'm a little embarrassed to give a recognizable example - Phil Collins (solo, "In the Air Tonight" excluded). I certainly wouldn't want to crank up that kind of music while driving my Trans Am. Like being into muscle cars well into adulthood, does being concerned about liking 'unmanly' music hint at an immature mindset? Mind you, liking only adult contemporary music is unmanly, and I'm not that bad :)

Still, despite the fact that many so-called real men must be listening to stereotypically female music, I don't remember ever hearing that blaring from another man's car. She was extremely good-looking. That gets me thinking that it's more embarrassing for a guy to be listening to soft rock by a male artist. Maybe even more so if it's a good-looking male artist (like Richard Marx).
Anyway, at least I've got guys who drive muscle cars saying it's okay, so maybe I'll be a tiny bit more likely to keep the windows down (though I usually have them up for other reasons). Not that anyone would say anything to me; it's more about what others might think and, ultimately, my own self-doubts.

this afternoon, beyoncé's "halo" came on the radio. i cranked it up and felt good about it! :yup:
Upbeat really doesn't count, unless it's something by Michael Bolton or a woman's anthem, for example. Trouble is, few people crank softer music, so maybe that's a reason why I don't know of men listening to it. Edit: and now that I remember "Halo" is a ballad rather than her typical upbeat stuff (which true AC stations might not play), that takes guts.
hell im 22 and i gotten strange looks for listening to earth wind and fire, and war. good music is good music, just because my generation and younger dont know the artist/band doesnt automatically make it bad music. it just makes it different. i got strange looks from middle aged folks when listening to war, but they are probably looking for the middle aged person playing the music lol. i dont keep it all the way up but if someone is stopped next to me with windows down they can recognize the song. assuming they know the song at least.

A real shame too, such a talent. I love her voice and don't believe she'll be around much longer if she doesn't stop her lifestyle. I watched a performance of hers on the Palla channel the other day and she looked totally trashed on drugs. She actually used to be decent looking when her first album came out. And KPPC might predate you by a bit. It was my initial exposure to album cuts being played all the time on the radio. KPPC was where I 1st heard the long version of Inagadadavida played on the radio, all 17 minutes of it. It was also the 1st time I'd ever heard of The Mothers of Invention.
Anecdote: I was listening to Light My Fire being played on KRLA (it was back in 1967) when the DJ broke in mid way through the organ solo and stated, "This song is entirely too long" (this was before they cut it up into a 3 minute song). I decided to randomly spin the dial on the (new for then) FM band to see what I could find. Lo and behold here was a radio station at the top of the dial playing, you guessed it, Light My Fire by The Doors. IIRC it was B. Mitchell Reed and all he played were album cuts.
This was also how I found another radio station playing Hendrix and other hard rock music. It was KABC-FM on 95.5 (they didn't become KLOS until 1971 or so).

I absolutely will not listed to hip-hop radio stations. I avoid soft-rock radio, too, actually. Doesn't feel right in the car, and at home I only spend a few minutes on (TV) digital music channels. Too much wading through the cesspool for a few coins. (Much of my experience is with 94.7 The Wave.) Almost all pre-1982/1983 AC is garbage. The Seventies was so awful even its music is bad.

AFAIC, there is nothing wrong with it. I listen to metal also (KUPD here in PHX). Was a big time fan of 105.5 KNAC ("If it's too loud then you're too old!" and "Kickin yer ass so hard yer lips go vertical") when it was a metal station in LA (well Long Beach).
