I've always ran 87 octane when just commuting and such... if I went to the track I'd go 93 to be safe. But I don't hammer my cars daily driving either.
-Cheapest octane
-Stock compression (not counting changes due to age and shittyness)
-Because it's the cheapest
Although I haven't had to take it to a gas station in almost a year.
93 on the track because that's what gm calls for in the first place I'd guess. That's alot of timing you're giving up for 15 cents a gallon
I use 91 octane. Because car makes more power and runs smoother than say 86 octane and thats what the manual says to use.
93 at ALL times. I thought I read some where that cheap octane can fuck up the engine.
93 all the time, 94 or 95 if I can find it. If you want your car to run the best with less headaches, then 91 or higher is all you should run. :true:
107 all day everyday
Any stock/near stock LS1 should be getting nothing but premium.
Certain reasons you would be able to run lower, but not likely many have those mods done.
Why is this thread around again? :lmao:
Fuel mileage will be worse too
Or Shines-it asking if he should buy every car he sees
I always run 91 and do it because I can. I'd run 93 if it was still readily available around here.
hey whats M6 stand for?
He's just loling shines
Black cars are faster than white ones.
93. With the mods done and the tune, no other choice.
oh and m6 will beat a4 no matter what m6 haz more gears so it will be faster do research i know i race for livin and i know
I herd that two 12" subs in the back and a blonde in the front make an LS1 run 2 seconds faster in the 1/4
just like siggy 91 due to lack of 93 close by. with my luck i would drive to hendertucky or north town til i fin 93. i found 2 spots close by with 100 though lol.
i run a 250 dry shot with 87 all day long. stock plugs too, no ecu tune
is that bad?
Jesus, have you ever tried to convince a high school kid that a 4l60 will be faster ten times out of ten? It's near impossible. Also couldn't convince this ls1 t/a butt brigadier and a three-valve mustang chili holer to buy a stall before getting their donkey dick cams installed. I think the t/a is 2.73 geared as well. Mustang doesn't even have headers... "Cam(s) will make me fast without anything else". Also couldn't convince them to stop being panty wastes and do some of the work themselves.
As long as you have "two of the big ones" of course. The small ones are too high-energy and will make the floor pan fall out of the car
I heard that pushing a LS1 off a cliff will make it the fastest ever :lmao:
My trck is heavier so it will go down the cliff even faster than the almighty ls1  I was wanting to do it anyway
The reason im asking this is because a person that i know that has been a tech for ford and gm for 35 years (total) is telling me that if i keep running higher then 87 octane, i will have alot of carbon build up on my pistons because the higher the octane the harder it is to burn. Keep in mind this is only with stock compression. What do you guys think about that?. I always run 91 or higher, and i have not had a problem. :look:
That depends. Assuming the top speed of an LS1 is around 150mph, It would take gravity 7~ seconds to accelerate the car to that speed. So the cliff would have to be at least approximately 901.6 feet tall for the car to match it's mechanical top speed with it's falling top speed.
jet fuel all day every day. Ma exhaster smells like a good ol fashin saturdey night rapin down on the river ya heer?
I have a question?
what lid should I buy for my 1999 z28 with nothing done to it nor will I even buy a lid, but which one should I act like Im about to buy?
yeah, -9.8... Blow me
p.s. inb4 some engineering student proves my calculations in post #48 wrong
You guys are still not posting facts or telling me why, all im getting is, (because i can) :wtf:
Tell me some facts, back it up! :suicide:
Thats wrong, had my car up to 170 (roughly) Needle buried for a min or so.... And reason 93/91 is better is it resists detonation better then 87/89. With our compression, detonation can become a factor. Higher the compression, more of a chance to detonate in simplest of terms

This thread gives me a head ache.
Loud orange ones piloted by ball cap wearing 16 year olds attract even more attention. However, my truck looks after me. For one, it rarely runs, secondly, it's so fucking slow you'd have to be going downhill for a ticket.
It actually runs pretty good, when it runs. Would take many late models if I didn't have a diper-striper axle
Have you ever rode in a 4.6 ford, 4.7 dodge, or 4.8 chev? They're even slower, believe me
I mean like a crew cab on 20's with 3.23's and the baby motors mentioned above :lmao: Tall gears and a dickless motor that loves to rev in a heavy truck. Compared to my stock 300 ft/lb at 2400rpm peak in a 3700 or so pound truck with 3.73's and 28" tires. Ok, officially killed the funny. Sorry
Oh, and you need driver mod, like BAD :) That's a mid-high 15 second truck at best stock. At best meaning a rc/sb 3.73, g80, 2wd truck.
Two gear race and I hit 3rd hard enough to hit the low trac light :yup: No driver mod needed = 2nd/3rd gear! That truck was a monster for a stock truck :true: Obviously the more gears I went through, the worse I would have pulled but he had taken many a vehicle while he owned it  Now he has a dynoed 640hp 1XXX tq duramax and a 6XXhp 7XXtq 69 Camaro :yay:
According to a Road and Track mag article fuel milage and octane rating have nothing to do with each other. If your vehicle is suppose to take 91 octane fuel and you put a lower grade of fuel it wont affect fuel mileage only horsepower.
lowest i can run is 91 with the tune i have...
But would it be OK to run 87 octane if you installed...
Weapon X Sparkplugs?!?!?!
I don't know that I would call him a fucktard.
Just someone that isn't up on the advantages of aluminum motors.
I run 11:1.
91 octane.
31 degrees of timing. (altitude allows for a few extra)
This is how it works.
Only use what you need too. If your car runs fine and DOES NOT ping on 85 octane...use that. If it does, go to mid-grade.
But if the knock sensors detect pinging they add knock retard and you shouldn't be able to notice pinging. So you'll cut power and mileage
lulz at thread turning srs
Jet Fuel
None of u fuckers is gonna beat me now, look what just arrived at my house

Got one of these for my truck |>(__) (poor attempt at a bomb). To blowit up.
we dont have anything higher than 91 here :(
Yep, 91 is what we get here. That's what I use.
Damn Spaz and IROC....those posts cracked me up :lmao:
