Just got me a GTO

Not a new one either. Its either a 66 or 67 GTO. Needs a complete restoration because the interior is shot and the body is covered with surface rust, the frame is in good shape, but its an all original car, numbers match, motor even fires up (says the owner). I have to clear this mans property off and haul the junk away and its mine. I'm going up there this saturday to see if its the tri power V8 or not. I do know that it is a 4 speed manual. Needless to say, I thought you guys would appreciate it! :devil:

Well check out Peformance Years.com for Pontiac forums. You don't know if it's a '66 or '67? take some pics would love to see it.

I'm going to the guys place on Saturday to take some photos. I saw it once years ago when I was at the guys place with my dad, but I didn't know anything about those cars back then. I can promise you this, it ain't gonna be pretty when I take the photos lol

you must promise step by step pics of the restoration or I forbid this acquisition! Great find have fun with the resto!

Sweet, I see you your in FL. When it comes time to interior work, let me know. My mom does custom interior work, she mostly does them on high cars or jets. So she can do what ever you looking for. When the time is ready, I am going to have a full leather interior in the 80 T/A.

It would only be a Tri-Power if it's a 66. That was the last year for it. 67 was a 4V.

Also be aware that they sold quite a few 2V cars as the base model. It's still a GTO but the base engine was a 389-2V w/PG.

Buddy of mine when in high school got a 66 Tempest 326, 2spd power glide for 300 bucks. It was sitting in weeds higher than the car. Car was solid aside from usual stuff. Did the body work and sent it to be painted. Then we stuck on an Eddy and some tubes. Car ran pretty good. Sold it for a mint (stupid) and has never owned a car that sweet since then (1992).. He still kicks himself over it lol. Good luck bud..

Its going to be hell, I know it will. My dad had one back when he was in high school so its gonna be a father son project, just so we can say we did something really cool together. Its more something for us to spend time doing together than anything, just glad its a GTO lol

My dad and I did the same in 1988 or so when I found my first '66 GTO. :D

We went out there Saturday only to discover the car is a tempest, not a true GTO like I was told. I might buy it from him for $300 bucks and haul it out of there and restore it anyways. But its just not the same :(

You said on the first page, "it's def. a tri-power 389".......

if so, I don't see the problem - a tri-power 389 Tempest would still be pretty fun!

Don't worry about it.....Clone it or restore it as is.

clones are still cool too.. just wont make as much money..

You can turn a tempest le-mans into a gto. Post up some pics my old man still has the tri-power carb setup from his 65-sigh.

When I get in from school tonight I'll see if he has sent me the photos over email of it. I'm going out that way again on Wednesday with cash in my hand and I'll see if he will take it for the car. Then I'll pull it out and bring it on home for some resto work. Believe it or not the motor in the car is from a GTO my dad used to drive that had to be rebuilt because he messed it up. Thats what he told my dad and I anyways. My dad had a big ole grin on his face like hell yeah haha since these guys were car nuts together when they were younger. Good times good times.
