I've been thinking about becoming a car salesman. Not sure how well I'd do though. Any salesmen out there willing to give me pointers as how to make the sale? I've never been in sales.
We should redo this thread and make a poll, me and a few others don't make too much. Everyone seems to be making over 50k per year.
Doesn't matter what you make, it will all find a way to get spent :brick2:
If I had known 20 years ago what I'd be making today, I'd have been thinking I was going to be rich.
Add wife that doesn't work + 2 kids = still broke :buttkick:
I honestly think to make a good car salesman you need to "believe in your product" as corney as that sounds i think its the number one thing, your customer has to know and believe that you believe in your company (ie, toyota), and that it is genuinely a good product, like i could NEVER sell fords, i hate em. but i love toyota, they have proven themselves throughout the years i've worked with them, not only the quality of their car but their customer service is unbelieveable, you buy a toyota and they treat you like you bought their higher end Lexus. I've literaly sold a prius to a woman when i was a receptionist, she was in the waiting room getting her car serviced while i was making coffee, i went on about the technology of the pruis, gas mileage, quality and next thing i know im getting a burdog from the sale because she went straight to a salesman and ordered one (they were still on order at the time because it was the only hybrid available at the moment) see what im saying?
i have to admit though, selling used cars is where you make your money. that's where the "scummy salesman" comes in, where you have to "sell" a person on a car that might not be in the BEST of condition, but you ignore the faults and point out the good points so they dont see the faults... its all about presentation.
Ask the guys who are still in the buisness if now is a good time to get in, i've talked with some sales guys ive known and they said buisness went down really bad, but who knows. Also starting out go for like honda, ford, toyota. The higher end you go the less your clientel. The more affordable to the masses, the more you can sell!
Design Engineer of production/quality assurance machinery for OEM's and industry, doing what I like for less than what people in my position at other companies ... hmmmm
