Gto.. Needs a diet.

OK, so im starting this thread to see how many ides we can come up with for weight reduction WITHOUT sacrificing the interior of our beloved goats. I still have to take my son with with me every now and again.. so let the ideas begin.
aside from carbon fiber hood and fenders, which i cant seem to find anywhere.
and please if you have done one, lets post there weight reduction as well. as best as possible. thanks guys.

I want to achieve a 400lb reduction. do you think its possible. i know its crazy so lets get that out of the way early.

replace front seats with lighter racing seats. 60lb reduction 340 to go
Wheels ? lb reduction
hood ? lb reduction
fenders ? lb reduction
drive shaft ? lb reduction
sound material under carpet ? lb reduction
i dont know what else.

3300 lb is my goal here

My empty weight on race day is about 3400 lbs

Skid plate
Y shaped connector for tow hitch
Gas tank brace
...the back seat literally takes less then 2 minutes to get in or out, take it out at the track when you race.

Wheels!!

Your stock wheels are heavy. Even more so if they are chrome plated.
I really like the ROH Wheels! For the money in my opinion the quality is unmatched for anything close price wise.
The Drift R's are by far my favorite. You can even get them in a staggered lip.

Also I would loose your stock JUNK 2 piece driveshaft in favor of a ALUMINUM 1 PIECE.

REMEMBER BOTH OF THESE ARE NOT JUST WEIGHT REDUCTIONS BUT ROTATING WEIGHT REDUCTIONS! You'll see MUCH more of a gain of reducing that weight first.:true:

I would suggest wheels,I have billet specialties,street lites,as far as the drive shaft,I could get a group deal going on the one I have from Inland Impire BY far the best aluminum drive shaft out there for our cars,comes complete with u joints and billit yoke direct bolt in .there are also numerous thing as mentioned above by other to take off car skid plate,y brace,the factroy exhaust wights a ton,etc.http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...5/DSC02838.jpg

Yeah InLand Empire is a GREAT part. I had one of the first ones they did on MY Personal car. I usually deal with Tony he has ALways taken care of me.

I replaced my factory 17" wheels/tires w/ Yokohama AD07 and ASA ST4 18". I weighed myself on a floor scale and the reduction differance was about 9lbs each set. That is a total of 36lbs of rotating weight!:seesaw: No given if getting on the strip is your thing, this set up might not be your interest. But man does it make a differance in road feel and suspension relief.
The BMR skid plate is about 10lbs shaved.
Did you take off your insulation under your hood, while your at it ripe out those rubber snorkle rain defusers in the hood snouts thats about 8lbs (I heard, didn't weight it in).
There must be a couple pounds in useless plastic under the hood for "asthetics".:jerkit:You can always throw that stuff back in later

Significant braces for USA impact certs. ( this in itself was over 200lbs.)
Fiberglass hood
Headers
Wheels
Driveshaft
All trunk insulation crap ...of course including the spare tire/jack and crap....
Relocated the battery to the trunk and bought a lighter battery.....
All Pedders springs/Koni shocks in the back and Monroe up front....yes they are lighter...
Custom homemade exhaust
Rear seat and passenger seat removed.
We weighed her at 3382 lbs with a little over a 1/2 tank of gas.

A few personal buddies of mine from the other forum have suggested a one-piece driveshaft. Another item I have been considering. My Stern 18" wheels feel lighter than the OEM 17s. Maybe it's me. I wonder if my SLP exhaust is lighter than the OEM setup?

I am the first one with a drive shaft from them for our cars, I am the person who sent them the factory shaft so they made me the first one,this is why they give me a great deal.

Angle grinder....the engine firewall brace...tank brace...door braces...then the frame has a few also...they all weigh quite a bit...

do you remember if the door crash bars are bonded in too, or can they just br cut out? I think I might just take mine out this friday....i know tey are big hunks of metal.
I also droped a good bit of weight by going with a set of the cheap Summit one piece seats/5 point harness, and removing all of the airbag system(including airbag wiring all marked by yellow tape and plugs) and went with aftermarket steering wheel

has anyone ditched the IRS rear and cradle for a standard, say Ford 9" and ladderbar or 4 link? anyone know how much weight this could save?

I have full Pedders, SLP skid plate, SW LTs(No cats), Magnaflow CB, and took out the rear jack and wheel and i weighed in at 3605 without me in it(On a truck scale at my old job). Not sure if my new wheels are lighter or not. They seem but i didnt put them on a scale. Not sure what she would weigh now.

man, if you drive it on the street leave those door bars in there. The weight savings isn't worth the risk. Those bars can save your life in a side impact and with the nut jobs I see on the roads I want every piece of protecton around me that I can find.

a roll cage would add even more protection than the crash bars and other braces, stiffen everything up, and get us legal to go very fast at the track :yup:

look in your local phone book for plastic fabricators, I know there is one right down the road from my parents house. witg a cardboard templet they can cut them to the size you need, then you just sand to fit and bond/ bolt them in.
you should have afew places around your area

i was gonna get replacement windows not just ones i can bolt in place. but i would only save around 50 lbs. for 1000.00$ ill save that one for last. i need to find fiberglass or carbon fiber fenders. everyone keeps telling me RMR but i cant find them anywhere

I am still beatin this idea around that or a custom cage,I think I def need one,but I will never make this car an all out drag car,I enjoy driving it way too much,I will run 9s with all interior,factory glass etc.and I love the leather,other ways to cut weight other then the best features of the car.

I pickup the cheap one piece plastic racing seat from summit with the covers, then glued carpet paddingvto the seat.... very comfortable, but you will need seatbelts or harnesses too since the latch is built into the seat. I went with RJS 5 point harnesses for the pair I think it was right at $120 shipped

if you can get the ones that fold forward, you have to climb across the front seats to get in my back seat. I mounted my harness to the seat mount (i made the seat mounts out of 3/4" square tube and used an old set of sliders I had laying around from one of my old Porches
