so..... met a prick today... 79 in a 65, said he pulled me for exhaust, but cut me a break there and just gave me a ticket for speeding.
well... looked at the ticket after i stoped cussing his ass and noticed he wrote "camaro" in the vehicle make section. my car is clearly a trans am, i was wondering if this would be a valid defense when i go to court or just pay the $150 ticket. im in va if anyone knows any of the legal bs in this pos state.

Im just wondering if its really necessary to strictly enforce a 55 mph speed limit there, why isn't the limit higher, or just loosely patrolled?
another thing? how strict are Maryland and Virginia with exhaust? because most likely im moving to Maryland.

For the record... Municipal Court is dubbed "Kangaroo Court" for a reason. Municipal Court judges are the only judges that are hired by the city instead of vote. They're on the cities payroll, they want to stay on the cities payroll, the judge is not going to side with you.
On a side note, (If you feel like you have a legitimate case, which you don't) you can waste the [Municipal] courts time and then just appeal the case once you lose... though, by then the tape from the cop car's camera will be used as evidence.

I dont know about down by the bay bridge, but in western MD most of the cops are pretty cool. Between 5-10mph over your safe, and as long as you dont sound like a pro street car your fine.Quote:

wow theres a lotta haters on this thread lol....i do think you were wrong at cussing at the officer but i would definently go to court or ask to do a written court and say you believe you were targeted simply because of your car it may not work but the written trial would probably be your best bet....p.s. when you do a written trial you have to pay the full fine up front and if you win you get it back

I have seen many occurrences where I was going with the flow of traffic (70-75) in a 65mph zone and cop cars going by me to catch the 90mph champion in a mini van........lol.
I think alot of it depends on the mood of the day. A lot of variables involved but, best measure is to go with the speed of traffic FWIW.
WTF?! Haters??? I'm very impressed with 98% of the responders on this thread. We know the speed limit, if we're over it, the law has the legitimate right to give us a ticket, plain and simple.
Only speeding ticket in my T/A was for doing 30 in a 20 mph speed zone. In a car that will go probably 140+!!!
And I swear I though I had passed the school zone! Do the crime, pay the fine...
AND it happened near Hobby airport in Houston, HPD had a sting going on, probably 10 police cars. They stopped all three lanes of traffic so they could get me from the inside lane to the parking lot.
And oh yeah, it was 9.11.02, 1 year anniversary of 9/11, my wife was flying to New Orleans and already freaked she had to fly that day.
And I was almost back home when my anger got the best of me and my right front fender kissed the tires on a big grass hauling flatbed. Smoosh!! There went another $500 same day!
But I can never argue with the ticket... Wow, I forgot how much that pissed me off!!

I overpaid it too with a check...They wrote me I needed to come pick up my credit of 25 bucks... I am not sure if it has any bearing on it, but I have yet to see it on my record and my insurance never went up..I was told if you over pay and don't accept/get/cash the refund check they cannot finalized the citation? Anyone ever hear of that before ? This was a couple years back though, things may have changed...?

i didn't cuss him to his face, they arrest you for stuff like that, va is worse than Mayberry.
this wasn't my first run in with this guy. the first time was when my right headlight wouldn't go up. i pull out of a gas station, as soon as i get away from the lights i realize somethings wrong, so i pull off hazards and everything by the book in an attempt to fix those pos motors, there i am standing in the rain when out of nowhere he comes by. he ends up giving me a ticket for faulty equipment.
the next time i meet him im on my way to work from school, leaving school he pulls me for exhaust, claiming he heard me from the gas station down the road, about a quarter mile away. the next day i have my buddy drive my car up and down that stretch of road and turns out either im deaf or he has the hearing of an owl.
a few days later i see my cousin who works dispatch for the goochland/powhatan 911 and tell her about him, she didnt seem amazed and it turns out hes a dick to pretty much everyone, even dispatch and the other officers in the area. turns out he flunked out of college but his dad is some bigwheel for the va government so he got the job.
aparently he gets more complaints from people he pulls over than any other goochland area officer.
so its not just me that thinks this guy needs a swift kick in the shin.
