Imagine: It's '68, pretty much shit ass music is the norm (Outside of the Beatles who released Sgt. Pepper's in the two weeks prior to this concert)
All of the sudden, this black guy wearing a pink boa playing left handed comes out and does something never heard before like this(At least in the States). NO ONE ever played a guitar or made a sound like this until Jimi made his American debut at the Monterey Pop festival. And most of the 200,000 people in attendance were tripping on "Monterey Purple" LSD, including Hendrix.
Kind of makes me think of the first time I ever heard Van Halen's 1st album when it came out. The sound just blew me away.
