Finally stumbled upon your trailer thread, even though you linked me to it a week or so ago. Very nice indeed Jeff. Hoping to do the same thing some day. Some day as in about 10 years from now :)
Thanks, Jon. Other than the fact it takes up about 1/4 of our driveway, I have no regrets. I need to get a building up to park it in for the winter -- want to keep it in good shape and out of the wind considering some of the storms we have been having lately.
That's the way to do it Jeff, very nice. Makes those track outings (especially the 3 day weekend ones) much more pleasurable. Even more so if you have family. Gets them out of the sun or bad weather. And you'll always know your stuff is safe when it's locked up over night.
No doubt. We had our chairs set up in the trailer and a pedestal fan plugged in to the generator. Living the good life!
About a year after the fact, I finally dragged the weight distributing hitch setup back out of the garage and took another look at it. I posted earler that when I installed it with the pole tongue adapter that it tipped the back of the trailer down too far and I was unable to use it. After looking at it again, I elected to go buy some longer pieces of chain and to try it again. Adding two (2) links to each side seemed to work and I was able to let some air out of the bags in the Suburban's rear springs so that it almost sets level now. We towed a little over 200 miles this weekend with the Trans Am in the trailer and it worked great. Definitely felt different and a little odd at first, but overall I think this is the way to go with a trailer of this size and weight.

Thanks, Jon. I am really liking having the trailer -- it has definitely seen some use in the past year, and will be on the road quite a bit this year if the weather cooperates. I need to build it a home now.

It was never so much about a swaying trailer for me to use these load distribution bars. I like the fact that it distributes weight more evenly over the tow vehicle, compensating the tongue weight hence putting more weight over the front tires giving you more control and stopping ability. You don't get the wishy washy feeling from a "too light" front end. Hence the name "load distribution". This may be why trailers start swaying in the first place.
It will allow you to pull the car further forward in the trailer if you need the room Jeff.
I've towed without load distribution bars before with alot of tongue weight,,,locking up the front brakes making a panic stop gets real interesting :D You'll always get that idiot that pulls out in front of you.
Does'nt Jeffs burbon have ABS, and stability control? Should'nt lock up the tires @ all.
Fortunately, the 'Burb is enough of a pig that with the air bags in the back the front end has never felt light. I have experienced that before with other vehicles and it is not a pleasant experience.
