I never have known if large amounts of residual smoke would be enough, but I don't see why it can't.
About fifteen years ago, my wife worked for an insurance brokerage. At that time, poppy seeds on gourmet rolls caused false positives for herion tests. They had quite a few people who had policies in danger of being dropped because of it. Weird things do happen.
