I ask because that is what's currently coarsing through the veins of my ls1 - I personally had never heard of diesel oil being used but apparently it works
if you dont want to put out the cash for say amsoil then the best stuff you can get at the local parts store is penzoil plat. imo
So you're saying testing shows it doesn't protect as well?
regular Pennzoil might suck, but apparently Pennzoil Platinum is good stuff.
What do you guys typically see for oil pressure when you're cruising the highway at 70-80mph?
Just north of 60 psi on the gauge.
Rotella T is not a bad idea for an older engine with a flat tappet cam. Penzoil Platinum is recommended for our cars and that is what I currently run. I don't recall any bad press on PP.
I typically see 70psi but today when cruising 70-75mph it was at 78psi (max on guage was 80psi) - Hasn't done that before, so trying to figure out what could have caused the spike. When I got down to 45mph it went back to standard 70psi
I don't have much faith in the accuracy of the stock gauges. Could be a gauge or sender issue -- only way to know is to plumb in a master pressure gauge.
This...
Did this myself when my factory guage would only read 60 psi @ any rpm.. The factory guage is mostly to let you know you have oil pressure not so much how much psi there is.. Once I installed a full sweep guage I could then see that the factory guage was mostly usless when it came to real acuracy..:vodka:
hey ive got a 2005 ford escape v6 that that has a pretty damn loud tappet noise. i know it has something to do with the rocker arm or valve, spring, lifter etc.. i got a mechanic buddy that says "put 20-50 in her." do you guys think thats wise or ok? i dont have the money to drop to get it fixed right now and ill prolly end up doin it myself, but dont have the time or funds for the parts. what do you guys think? oh yeah, and it burns a shit load of oil. thanks
id put in 15w-40 first, 20w-50 is typically racing oil, not many detergents etc, 15w-40 is typically diesel oil which will have more than enough detergents for that blowby.
you could also just try straight 40w
Far too heavy for tight tollerance car engines.imho. Could do more damage than good.. I actually went down to 5w30...;) Many here even went down to 0w30... Side note: Sawdust added to a bad trany will make it not slip for a little while... Is it fixed?:)
